Our 102 and 97 year old match going sisters.

The lad who sits next to me knows Vera as she goes in his gym. She gets on the treadmill and walks for a bit, hats off to her. When he got talking to her about City she said how happy she was with all that's happening but she wished we didn't keep changing grounds so often. She's seen us at Hyde Road, Maine Road and the Etihad lol

I hope someone gets an interview with them both and captures as many memories as they can remember while they are still with us. Well done ladies!

I think Bob Paisley, Liverpool's great manager stated Peter Doherty was the best player he had ever seen.
Thats praise indeed..Paisley not really a man of many words or outlandish comment.
Interesting..Gonna have to have a look at Doherty career details.....

Spoke to the son in law on Saturday and he was absolutely blown away by how they had been treated by City. Fantastic. They got a standing ovation as they walked through the lounge - was brilliant.

It wasn’t just Paisley - Mercer, Busby and Danny Blanchflower. After Bell was at his peak everyone who had seen both play reckoned Doherty was best. However, all those who had seen Meredith said he was better than Doherty. It’s always a tough one and based on first heroes etc.

After Best’s peak Mercer still claimed Doherty as the greatest Irish footballer of all time.

Great to see Vera and Olga. Loyal supporters and a demonstration of both the commitment of fans and of the attendance of women at football. In the coverage (I’m thinking of MOTD) some have said that the two women would REALLY have seen the Sh*t (Ian Wright and Lineker seemed to agree). That’s true - 1996 to 1999 saw the club reach its lowest point - but we need to start reminding the media, football and the world in general that MCFC have been predominantly one of the UK’s elite ever since their first success in 1904. They’ve not always had the best team, trophy success or accolades but they have kept pace with each era’s leaders (apart from that period from 1996 when the gap between rich and poor together with City’s poor few years meant that City were left behind). For anyone thinking ‘ah, you would say that City have always been a giant’ consider this: Looking by decade since 1930 the sisters would’ve experienced: 1930s - record crowds that no other club can beat on their own ground; League title; FA Cup; 1950s - FAC win; top 4 finish; 1960s - League title & FAC; 1970s - ECWC; 2 league cups; runners up in League; 80s - FAC finalists; 1990s despite struggles 2 5th place finishes; 2000s - UEFA Cup qtr finalists etc. It’s time for us to stop thinking that the period 1996-2002 was typical. Dropping to our lowest ever position was appalling and dreadful and difficult but it wasn’t typical of our entire history. Olga and Vera have witnessed those lows but they have also experienced City being regarded as one of the elite for MOST of their lives. Perhaps we should Sing Where were we when we got 84,569? Olga and Vera were here! (Doesn’t scan though!)
