Our attack - what's off?

People go on about our wastefulness in front of goal as though it's a new thing.
Even at the peak of our powers we were profligate. It's just more obvious now as we don't create as many chances.
That is true, to be fair. We have consistently missed hat fulls under Pep (not blaming Pep, just putting a time period on things). We have only had one natural goal scorer, though. Aguero, now 32 years old, has been our own natural finisher at City for some time now. However, we were creating many many chances each game. It's easy to forget the rued chances when you have 30 + shots on goal but score 5 of them. Now, we are having far fewer chances and missing less, but scoring fewer too.
I will say, however, Aguero is aging and injury prone, we've lost Sane, B Silva is far from his best and Sterling has taken a huge backward step in his development. Now. more than ever, we HAVE to convert the chances but we look less likely to do so.

Top strikers attack the ball and strike it early. Only Sergio does this for us and Ferran to a lessor extent.

Our other players wait for the ball and swing a leg with the result it is blocked or is not on target.

Too often our wide get players behind the opposition defence only to pass it back to lose all threat. Just as bad are the wild crosses to no-one or our players are static waiting for the ball allowing defenders to intercept and clear.

I agree. Last season KDB created 100 goal scoring chances yet got just 20 assists (i know it equalled the record) but it just goes to show you.
Better finishing would of had him setting a new record that would probably of lasted many years

A 3 at the back vs park the bus teams with one fullback tucking in and another moving into midfield today looks amazing. Keep in mind Newcastle parked the bus for the entire 90 and we were creating chances till the end. If we can manage to master the 3-4-3 when playing defensive teams and the 4-2-3-1 against offensive teams, we can get back to our usual standard.

1. Out of form key players - Kevin, Raheem
2. Lack of minutes for main striker - Sergio
3. Unusual season - no fans, lots of games

the first two will change as the season goes on so expect more goals then. For now, as long as that defence keeps going, who cares, a wins a win
