Our best starting 11 and formation from here on out?

It's obvious really against a defensive team

Tough teams then Barry comes in for Nasri!!

Milner can alternate across the positions

Harsh not to have Tevez but I think he will be gone next season

Obviously my post was wasted as usual

Your set up is a defensive set up, it has nothing to do with when we have the ball

*bangs hand against wall again*

---------------------------Hart----------------------------

------ Zaba -----Kompany ----- Nastasic ----- Clichy -----

----------------- Yaya Toure---- Barry -----------------

-----------Silva* --------------------------- Nasri* ---

--------------------- Tevez --- Aguero ----------------

* interchangeable / Free roles

I'd start with that most weeks. Milner/Dzeko/Lescott featuring quite often when required and unleashiing the Toure de Force later on in games.

Pretty much what gave us a lot of our success in front of goal before the defense looked a bit dodgy

fuck it and just go out with a "we'll score more than you" mentality

Dont be a sad bastard, they're fun to play with, I bet you're a hoot at parties.

You're right of course, but then again the set-up can influence how the team plays, and again, its fun to speculate. Also helps to explain people's selections..

For what its worth... vs Southampton

Assumes Vinnie wont make a miraculous recovery. Hopefully stops us getting overrun in midfield again - Tevez could be swapped with Dzeko, and Nasri with Kolarov (for crossing) or Sinclair (for pace) just to provide something different.

Ideally for me though:

For those complaining about width, lets wait until we have some world-class wingers, or simply not bother.. In this formation I'd be encouraging the boys in midfield to spray the ball toward the corners, leaving Serg or Carlos to attack from width, and/or work toward Milner/Yaya/Merlin ghosting into the box

My first post guys :)

As an Inter supporter, I can tell you straight up that we've yet to see the best of Maicon. I mean no disrespect to Zabaleta but Maicon is just on a different planet with the ball at his feet. To maximize the potential of our squad, I'd go with:

----------Zabaleta----------Kompany----------Nastasic----------

Maicon------------Yaya--------------------Barry----------Kolarov

-----------------------------Silva--------------------------------

---------------Dzeko--------------------Aguero------------------

I think that Milner, despite his fine performances, still doesn't have the passing quality to get in central midfield ahead of the current two or occupy the right wingback role. Kolarov is there for his excellent crossing ability. Put simply, when Dzeko plays, Aleks should too. It pains me to see him putting crosses into the box for guys like Tevez and Aguero. With the ball at his feet, though, I rate Clichy higher. In a formation where Tevez, Aguero, Silva and Nasri all start at once then Gael should play because he facilitates the possession game.

This.

Hmmm, what to do? We battered teams last season with a 442, but this time we're up against a lot more bus-parking (and the subsequent counter-attacks). You've got three options:

Try and pick your way through: The 4222 we've mostly used this season, with Nasri, Silva.
Get wide and cross it: We have no wingers.
Draw them out a bit: The argument for a return to the Yaya-in-the-hole 4231. Not sure if this is a goer. Anyone?

The 4222 is alright, and we push the fullbacks on for width, but there's obviously something lacking. United are beating bus-parkers through width and superior finishing.

For me when we play teams that park the bus we play too defensive. Against QPR I don't see why we need to play 2 HM's. Now that Maicon and Kolorov are fit again I'd like to see them play as wingbacks in the 3-5-2 formation to give us width and better service in to Dzeko. I love Clichy but his service isn't the best. Kolorov needs to play when Dzeko plays. Now that Yaya is back he should be able to fix the problems we've been having latley in the middle. Then bring Maicon on late if things go stale.

I'd go with the following once Kompany is back:

-------------------------------Hart---------------------------------

----------Zabaleta----------Kompany----------Nastasic----------

Clichy------------Yaya--------------------Barry----------Kolarov

-----------------------------Silva--------------------------------

---------------Dzeko--------------------Aguero------------------

Bench: Tevez, Maicon, Nasri, Pants and Milner.

---------- Hart ----------
Zab - Vinnie - Nasty - Clichy
--------- Garcia ---------
--- Yaya -------- Barry
Aguero ------------- Silva
-------- Dzeko ----------

I nd Garcia sitting deeper being the link from defence to attack with yaya having more freedom, kun on the right cutting in or using his pace kind of similar to what walcott has done at arsenal this year, keeping defenders guessing as to which way he will go. Barry can cover on the left to allow Silva freedom with clichy boming down the left like he does so well.

Against park the bus sort of teams drop Barry back to where Garcia is and play either Nasri more central with yaya or bring Silva inside and play sinclair wide left to use his pace.

-------------- Hart -------------
Maicon - Vinnie - Nasty - Clichy
----------- Baz/Rodwell --------
---- Yaya ---------- Silva -------
Kun/Milner---------------- Sinclair/Nasri
--------- Edin/Kun/Tevez -------

4-2-2-2

-------------------- Hart --------------------
---------------------------------------------
- Zabaleta -- Kompany --- Nastasic -- Clichy -
---------------------------------------------
---------- Toure Yaya --- Barry --------------
----------------------------------------------
--- Silva --------------------------- Nasri ---
---------------------------------------------
---------- Kun Aguero --- Tevez -------------
----------------------------------------------

IMO- We allways need to start Kun and Carlitos up top, we've won every game with those two starting upfront together, i will always remember the 6-1 thrashing of Norwich where both Kun and Carlitos flourished. The back four chooses itself its just a matter of formation and players that suit the positions. Also we saw the brilliant 1st half against Newcastle, the football was amazing to watch.
