People saying that the CL QF is the biggest game in our history. We've obviously never been this far in the premier European trophy but is it the biggest?

Some obvious contenders are the QPR game, the Derby a few games prior to that. Then there's the Gillingham play-off final which, had we not eon it might have affected our whole recent history.

I'd even go back to 2006/7 under Pearce when we were in danger of relegation and went to Boro and won, at a ground we didn't usually won at. Had we lost that, relegation would have been a real possibility a decent maybe the Thaksin/ADUG takeovers might not have happened.

Newcastle away. Bigger is every way, because it involved a direct rival and more than one team in the equation.

People forget, Newcastle were also going for a Champions League place.

Without Newcastle, there is nothing. No QPR, there is no Sergio moment.

I suppose it depends how you look at it. In terms of really 'arriving' on the European stages where we've really just been an afterthought for the most part, I think its a huge game, especially for the owners who want that higher profile.
In terms of club history I dont think it comes close personally, Gillingham play off final is one of the biggest reasons the club is where it is today - had it all gone wrong that day we could very well be in the big club graveyard with Leeds, Forest et al.

Semi Final against Utd in the FA. Said we are now as good as you and getting better. Or the game at home against them the season after, if they had got a point they would have won it at our place.

all this biggest game is just the press trying to build it up

Nowhere near our 'biggest ever game'. That is completely laughable.
The Gillingham game was for me.
The QPR game was about glory.
The Gillingham game was about survival.
This game is neither. It is merely a progression through to the next round of a cup competition.

Tomorrow night's game is by simple logic the biggest game City have ever been involved in. The European Cup is the biggest trophy City can compete in and this is the furthest they've ever got. If they get through to the semis then they'll be involved in even bigger games. All the other games mentioned like Gillingham, Newcastle, QPR etc are the games that got the club to this point

I would say in terms of anticipation, it was United in 2012 because a win put us in pole position for the title and it seemed like the point where we took over from United as the pre-eminent club. The build up to that game was like nothing before or since. In retrospect the biggest was the QPR game but at the time we expected to win that quite easily so in the run up to the game, it didn't seem quite as big. Tomorrow's is a big game but if we lose it's not the end of the world. Losing to United or QPR in 2012 would have seemed like it and losing to Gillingham in '99 might well have been.

The United 1-0 the year we won the PL, that got the ball rolling, atmosphere was the best since the Hamburg game-tense wasn't the word!

been plenty of big games that warrant a mention for different reasons.

the tide turned when we beat them in that game.

Not a chance, but boy I'm really looking forward to it.

Gillingham Wembley 2-2 won on pens Promotion
Blackburn Away 4-1 promotion
rags Wembley 1-0
Stoke Final 1-0
rags Home 1-0
Newcastle Away 2-0
QPR Home 3-2 title win
West Ham 2-0 title win

All bigger and that's off the top of my head.

That's just in my lifetime.
