Like I've said a few times Blackburn, Birmingham, West Brom twice, Liverpool, at Spurs we gave them tickets back, Sunderland, West Ham, Chelsea... none of these away games sold out last season. I was at many. Did I come on Bluemoon and call people names or question their loyalty or support? Did I fuck! I'm not a **** and don't act like one. Some people are too insecure and are far too bothered about what other people say about them.
If we don't sell out that^ many away games a season, plus probably 10+ home games too, and look at our early round cup games (all more important than yesterday, all games I went to); then in my eyes we don't have a particularly big support. Is that not in peoples heads already? Do you all live in some dream world where you think we're this huge club with infinate fans? Because I looked around at West Brom away last season and saw that we seriously lack support!
Now why would this be? Well:
Because we aren't a one club town (Newcastle, Leeds, Sunderland; there are 8 professional football teams in Greater Manchester, 4 in the Prem). Because we aren't the biggest club in our town (Villa are in their town; some might think 'all Mancunians are City fans' but that's way off the mark). Because Manchester is only a reasonably sized city (there are that many people living in London that Spurs and Chelsea both have huge supports). Because we went 35 years (a few generations) without winning a trophy (Everton didn't go this long without a trophy). So all these clubs I've listed - plus the big three of Liverpool Arsenal and the Rags - all have potentially bigger support than us, even if they are all pretty much similar sized clubs to us.
Plus then you've got people who never go to away games, or who are only casual fans (as in City are very low down on their list of priorities). Plus you've got people who will be on holiday at this time of year. Plus you've got people who might have personal reasons (my mate and his missus had a baby a few days ago). Plus people have lost their jobs or are simply poor. Plus you've got the many many people who don't really care about the Community/Charity Shield, some who would rather spend their money on other more important games and some who wouldn't go even if they have the money. And we simply don't have the size of support to replace these because of the reasons I've listed in the previous paragraph.
So taking all this into consideration - and remember United's tickets for yesterday went on open sale, which means half of their seasoncard holders didn't bother with the game neither, and they still had empty seats - how can people not understand and take it that yesterday didn't sell out?!
