Our Finishing...

Has this thread been made off the back of Burnley? Weve scored 3-4 goals in most games this season and even more than that!
The thread was started after the Burnley game, but it wasn't a knee-jerk reaction to only scoring 1 in that game. It was more a discussion of why it's easy to feel like we should score more when you watch us play and see all the chances we create. Scoring 3-4 per game without any other information looks brilliant, but if we should really be scoring 6 every game, then there's something to discuss (and improve on).

I think part of it is just that it’s more noticeable for us due to the quality of chances we create, which people then think “should” be scored, even though statistically, we are doing fine. It’s why the old adage of scoring goals is the most difficult thing to do still rings true.

The other thing id add though is I find our shots count very impressive given the amount of chances we have where it’s just one pass away from a certain goal. Our whole play to me is about maximising the best opportunity - two tap ins will get more goals than ten shots from around the box, so I think a lot of the stats have to be taken with that in mind too.

Despite our lofty position, world class forwards and attacking play, it does feel like we miss a high percentage of very good chances - perhaps because we create so many we expect to put them away as the build up is often so good.

But having got there we often seem to scuff it, hit it straight at the keeper or a defender's legs/arse/head.

Very frustrating, but perhaps we just have more shots than other teams? It does seem if we give the opposition 2 or 3 chances they score one, whereas we create about 20 chances and score 2 or 3. Why is that?

Keep it simple, if you are in a good position to shoot in front of goal, and you get the room to take a shot do so. A look to see if there is another pass may result in the chance being shut out.

It's not too bad. We've got 100+ goals already.

It's easy be critical when we've missed one.

People say Sergio should have passed or Sergio should have shot.

Hard to be critical when we've got it right 100+ times already.

Keep making the right decision more often than not and we'll be unstoppable by sheer volume of chances created.

Raheem gets slagged off in the media while Jesse Lingard's the boy wonder. Hmmmmm. Lingard's 25 with a career total of 12 goals for Manure and 11 for various lower league clubs while on loan. Career total of...... wait for it...... 23 since his debut in 2011. Raheem's a few years younger and has 63 career goals. Guess who supposedly cannot finish.... ??????? Ha ha !!!

The op has a point, we certainly make the chances I still feel someone is in for a proper spanking when it's one of them days everything flys I.

Looking at the xG website, Aguero has been about as good a finisher as Harry Kane this season (both about a goal ahead of xG), and both have been slightly better than Messi, who's barely ahead of his xG. The funniest one is CR7 who should have scored over 15 goals from all his shots, but has so far actually scored 8. Let's hope he gets his "dream" move back to OT in the summer...
