Our glaring weakness at LB, will it be fixed?

Pep loves his energetic fullbacks, I'd be amazed if he didn't replace Kolarov and either one or both of our RB's if he does take over. But I wouldn't be that surprised if he gave Angelino a go at leftback either, he seems a pretty Pep type player

I think Angelino could thrive under Pep.

Going forward he is excellent albeit I think he needs more experience defensively and that's why I think he will be loaned out again in the coming weeks and we will see how he is in pre-season.

Same with Denayer although I think it's nailed on he will be a squad member next season, especially considering Pep likes to go 3 at the back occasionally.

I've seen angelino play over here for NYCFC, I do agree he has some work to do on the defensive end but the kid can play on the ball

I reckon he could play as a wing back in a three at the back system right now, a system which Pep does play.

In a back four he needs more experience defensively.

Like you said though, on the ball he is excellent and looks a real threat going forward.

Right now he is a wing back but with a little bit more experience I think he could be a great fullback

"Glaring weakness"....I don't know any other left-back in the league who contributes as much going forward as Kolarov. His crosses, overlap runs, shooting, first touch, passing and set-pieces are all excellent. Defensively, we've conceded on his side but I'm not sure that's because of him as much as a lack of solidity in the entire defensive line without Kompany keeping it together.

Also, Clichy is a more than capable #2. We also have a quality youngster in Angelino. Three good left-backs to choose from next season is hardly a glaring weakness.

And if Pep comes, it's likely he'll play with wing-backs which suits Kolarov's game perfectly.

I agree. I always rated Kolarov. This season I am sat right on the touchline and I love watching Kolarov play. His sprinting is very impressive. That's really tiring to run all out and do it repeatedly throughout the game. I know he has his critics in regards to his defensive game, but fullbacks is about much more than defending. Easily the best left back in the Premiership at the moment. There is not a player to touch him and given the injuries to Silva, Kompany and Aguero he has been our most influential player outfield player this season. Possibly Otamendi is a rival for that too

He could do with being rested from time to time. We miss Zabaleta as well. The fully fit version.

The problem we have now though is all our Full backs are either 30 or over and as you rightly say it's probably the most demanding role on the pitch nowadays as modern full backs are expected to attack as much as they defend and when your over 30 that becomes ever more difficult. 2 young full backs are a necessity in the summer to bring some fresh legs to our ageing flanks as we really need that area of the team improved

I here this a lot, but is he really? I've watched Leicester at least 7 times and I'm certain Fuchs is far and away a superior footballer to Kolarov, so is Patrick Van Aanholt at Sunderland, Monreal at Arsenal just to name 3.

His sprinting to join the attack is impressive, I'll give you that. And he does have a good low cross, but that's it. Frankly besides those 2 qualities, his tackling might be his 3rd best quality. But his ball control, his touch, his decision making and general interplay are all grossly below average. He is what I call a positional stiff. A left back who just happens to play football. What we need is a footballer who just happens to play left back.

Can't agree with that one, if anything he's Kolarov Lite

Yes, bombs forward like Kolarov, but better ball skills and general footballing intelligence. But I reckon hef be just as despised here for bombing forward too much.
Besides I think Kolarov is a better tackler. But Holt is a better footballer.

Can never decide whether or not Kolorav is decent. I'll see him put in a decent shift and then everybody on here thinks he's
sh-t. He signed a new contract last year so I don't think he's going anywhere. The club might be hoping Angelino shows something soon.

There is no such thing as a perfect full back, and if one is unearthed anywhere, he'll not be for sale to us.

Kolarov is certainly, based on goals, assists and general interplay is in the top 10 in European Football, and as a club, that is pretty much where we are currently.

Sure he has defensive lapses, but the days of full backs who never attacked and waited for the opposition to attack them are long gone.

Supposed great full backs of yesteryear, such as Lee Dixon, Dennis Irwin, Phil Neal, or even Willy Donachie, wouldn't be playing for any top teams today. In short, and in spite of any small errors he has made along the way, Kolarov, based on what he offers, is as good as anything we've ever had at Left Back.

Van Arn Holt has got to be one of the worst full backs I've ever seen in the PL, and makes Kolarov look like Maldini. There is a reason he plays for Sundeland.

As for the other two - Fuchs having a good season, but let's see how he progresses; Monreal looks very capable.

Not that it's relevant to the discussion at hand but Kolarov is clearly the hard man of the squad. Only Yaya and Kompany would be a match for him in a fight.

Jose Luis Gaya is the guy we should be after to be the long term answer at LB. Wonder is 20M plus add-ons gets it done.

He is currently injured. Beginning to wonder if his slight built means he is gonna be injury prone. I mean if he is getting injured because of the physicality in Slain, then he has little chance of holding up here.

That aside, u think he is a phenomenal footballer.
