Our last world class youth player

Some of the youtube comments are as wrong as they are predictable.

Danny Sturridge has been the best out of the academy by a country mile since the Lake, Hinchcliffe era.

Its depressing he plays for Liverpool but lets not let emotion cloud judgement.

Johnson talent wise, Sturridge and SWP before that. Fact is, the kids we've produced in the last few years haven't been anywhere near the level we all hope and lots assume they are.

If we're talking genuine world class talent then City aren't alone in producing hardly anything of note for decades. That's a long term project that could take years, and possibly a huge slice of luck.
However, we should be able to produce the Wes Brown/Mark Noble types

Really? A country mile better than Johnson? Nonsense.

I still look back at how good he was and what might have been. Such a waste, although not up there with losing Lakey.

Broke our duck at home to Derby, and then went on a string of goal scoring runs at home against Middlesbrough and Villa, linking up beautifully with Elano.

Was a really exciting time that, and Johno's rising talent was a big part of that, such a shame it ended the way it did.

Producing first team players is going to become rarer imo because of the demands on the first team. It was only when we were truly skint that players used to break through regularly (Class of 86) and even after that players who went on to have decent careers did not get much of a chance. Neil Lennon, Gerry Taggart, Ashley Ward etc left City and had solid careers when we had worse players in our first team squad.
It would take a really talented and (more importantly) determined kid to make the first team squad after joining as a real youngster rather than as a 15-17 year old like Ihenacho, Denis Suarez etc.
Even these late joiners face a really difficult task so full respect to Kelechi for his achievements last season.
