Paul Lake. saw nearly every game Lake played for City and nobody can convince me he wasn,t world class.
a uniquely talented footballer, off the top of my head i saw him play right back against shrewsbury at maine road, centre forward at everton in a league cup quarter final, central midfield against nottingham forest when he destroyed a side playing in a league above us,centre back against liverpool in an fa cup quarter final at maine road.. and finally..left midfield gainst utd in the 5-1 when he was sublime.
with the best will in the world,no other player mentioned in this thread was capable of that.
Paul Lake was class.
Had you said 'the potential' to be world class I think everyone who saw him (myself included) would agree with you.
Ken Barnes - there are very few finer judges - said he was the jewel in the crown of the 86 youth cup winning team, and he was right, but sadly he was never able to make it beyond the tag of potential..... (as with Michael Johnson)
