Our last world class youth player

This is quite an important point.

It seems that these days (and City are far from alone here) that a club can BUY a player when they're 16, play them in a couple of EDS games, give them a first team call-up and then claim them as an 'academy graduate'.

It's a tad delusional to believe that City 'produced' Iheanacho for example.
Or if you are united, buy them at 19 after they have played 80 gamrs for their club and are a full international and claim they are a product of the youth academy

Apart from the ones signed from other clubs or coming to us at 16 etc Michael Brown was the last great player, before him Earl Barrett, Hincliffe, White and Ian Brightwell.

I think we have different definitions of the word 'great'.

The last good players we produced were probably the 2008 youth cup side with Mee, Trippier etc

Paul Lake. saw nearly every game Lake played for City and nobody can convince me he wasn,t world class.
a uniquely talented footballer, off the top of my head i saw him play right back against shrewsbury at maine road, centre forward at everton in a league cup quarter final, central midfield against nottingham forest when he destroyed a side playing in a league above us,centre back against liverpool in an fa cup quarter final at maine road.. and finally..left midfield gainst utd in the 5-1 when he was sublime.
with the best will in the world,no other player mentioned in this thread was capable of that.
Paul Lake was class.

Playing centre back in a 4-0 defeat is hardly an endorsement. Brightwell played in as many positions and at a higher level for longer.
