Some of our purchases this summer would not pan out. For me right now only 3 have.
Silva, Yaya and Balotelli. The other 4 are still maybes. Milner, Kolarov, Boateng, Dzeko.

Deep down, I don't think either Kolarov or Milner will pan out long term.

Milner will come good! Give him time.. That I am certain of.

Kolarov.. The jury is still out.. However just because he is not an Ashley Cole or Roberto Carlos clone means he is as sucky as some ppl on her make him out to be.
It is not that he is sucky. He is jsut doing more than e needs to, which ends up making him perform worse. Yopu know what, just play defense and pass the ball off to the nearest player to you. If you get an open shot every other week, take it. But stop forcing shots that are not there. Not to mention he is not even halfway decent with his crosses. :(

I really like Godin at Atletico if we were to buy a CB

If we want a CB then it should be Thiago Silva.
Yeah! But they will never sell. He is their future at CD. Thiago is the sought of partner I wanted for Kompany. I have high hopes on that Toloi kid. I just loved what I saw in that video when he had the ball.

Subotic or Hummels are better

Sneijder/Pastore would do.

Schweinsteiger anyone? seems like he's been around for an eternity, he's still only 26!

Xavi is the first option for me, that's impossible though, so we'll stay realistic.

When we brought in Dzeko I thought we finally had our deadly spearhead in the team. I assumed his job and position would be right up there in the middle, banging in goals. But apparently I was wrong.
His prime asset is his finishing, he's a killer so to speak, with both head and feet. To place him out wide is to take away everything which makes him a great talent.

I'd love to see him at the point in a 4-1-2-2-1 formation, and let the man dominate that central area in front of the opponents goal. He should be the main man everyone is looking to to score goals.

I think we could be so much better than what we are from time to time (too often). We could play a much more attractive and attack-minded game if we wanted to.

Maybe something like this with the current squad:

--------------------Hart------------------------
Micah----Boateng-----Kompany----Kolarov
----------------- De Jong ---------------------
---- YaYa----------------------Milner----------
---------Adam J------------Silva---------------
------------------- Dzeko ----------------------

In the summer then, what do we need? From back to forth:

Goalkeeper:
With Given looking to be on his way out, we need a good second keeper.

Defensive midfield:
Zabaleta is a fantastic squad player and he could replace DeJong when needed, or any of the fullbacks (not ideal though). Another option could be to move YaYa there.

Midfield:
Barry and a fit Michael Johnson to replace YaYa and Milner when needed. Maybe we need to bring one more in for cover unless Michael doesn't find his way back as in Henderson for example.

Attacking midfielders:
We buy an additional attacking midfielder to compete with AJ and Silva, as in Pastore or Sneijder.

Strikers
Based on the assumption that Tevez wil leave in the summer, we'd only have Balotelli to cover for Dzeko (mention Jo and I will cast a spell on you). Can we really count on him for the future? I'm not that sure about that. So maybe we would need a new striker as well.

If Tevez leaves. I'd suggest we buy Sanchez, and Sneijder and Coentrao

--------------------Hart-----------------
Micah----Boateng-----Kompany----Coentrao
--------- De Jong --------- YaYa-----------
------Sneidjer------Sanchez------Silva------
------------------- Dzeko ----------------

Subs
Balotelli
AJ
Milner
Zaba
Lescott
Barry
Kolarov
Taylor

Backups
Boyatta
Assulin
MJ
Wabara
And the Georgian kid :P (Bachana Arabuli)

I don`t understand why everybody is writing Milner off !
He is a decent player no doubt. But he will never bring the quality a Pastore, Sneidjer or Sanchez will bring.
I.e. I can never see Milner rivaling Fabregas or Nasri in midfield. I can see Sneidjer, Pastore or Sanchez doing it though.

Nothing against Milner, he is a good hardworking player. But we need some magic in that team, and he is not going to be it!
