Milner back up for De Jong? You gotta be kidding me right? Even Rodwell is better than Milner in that position. Rodwell plays actually as an holding mid/box-to-box. A very good defensive midfielder.
I have seen Milner play. He is a DM who just doesn't know it yet.
Milner is for me a bit like box to box. He actually has pretty many assist in his premier league career.
So does Tevez. Doesn't make him a good passer of the ball though. Milner's best quality is his ferocity. If he channels that strictly towards winning possession, he'll be phenomenal. And Just because he is a DM, doesn't mean he stands still. Milner to me is the English version of Essien. He will pixk his spots and drive forward. Attempt some long passes. But is infinitely best putting in crunching tackles and harrassing offensive players.

Oh btw, Essien too has a lot of assists over his career.

If you cover for De Jong. You have to be a good tackler. Milner isn't an very good tackler. I think we will sign in summer someone who can cover for Ndj and play as and holding mid. A great tackler i reckon. Someone like Inler or Asamoah.

Milner would be wasted at De Jongs position. he can offer something in the attack. He has actually passed many of the goals for Tevez. Remember when he came to City?

The guy got the first assist in the first goal vs Liverpool. He also crossed beutifully to Tevez vs Newcastle.

Inler is a better player than De Jong so I doubt he will come here to back up De Jong. And milner is as good of a bll retriving player as 90 percent of players in the Prem. Being a great tackler is a plus, but you don't need to be one to play DM. Intensity is more important. Gattuso is not a great tackler either , but his ferocity is infectiou. So will Milner's.

I am not saying Milner has no assists, at one point he led City with 5. But assists don't tell the whole story. his deceision making in general is often suspect. Thus playing as a DM which requires him to be more disciplined offensively will actually improve his overall quality .

How is Inler better than De Jong? And i think he would come because he would get much better wages here and this is much bigger club than Udinese.

And trust me...Milner will never become a DM. He is an box-to-box player clearly. he could be used in Yayas position too.

De Jong was a box to box midfielder too before he finally saw the light. Funny enough, he played like a more skillful version of Milner.

-- Sat Mar 12, 2011 8:33 am --

Oh, I didn't mean Inler wouldn't come. I am just saying if he does he wll bench De Jong eventually. Inler is a better Dm.

De Jong is a future city legend. He's our 1st choice DM for years to come.. Milner could play along side De Jong or next to a bigger defensive minded DM ala Rodwell

Hence why we probably wouldn't get Inler.

I would say Nigel is one of three players I would consider to be the heart of the team, and thus the most important players:

De Jong
Kompany
Zabaleta, even though I see him more as a squad player. His work ethic and professionalism will be picked up by others.

Kompany, Silva and Hart. Everyone else we can manage without.

As per Zab. Hope not the kind of work ethic he showed at Kyiv on the 2nd goal :(

Fair enough, but over all you'd have to agree with me on his performances.

The list I put together by the way, was names of the players I feel have the most heart for the club. One of these ought to made captain as well, Kompany preferably.

We will go for Rodwell before Inler, after the huge clear out this summer we will be short of English players. Rodwell will be available due to Evertons financial situation so is gettable in my opinion as Barry isn't getting any younger either.
