Our support on here

This is a great post. Whoa!!!!!! Realism has entered the room.
This is not computer football, it's a very tough league with plenty of money being spent. Pep and others are correct, given the size and stature of the club, we should be aiming for a minimum of top 4 each season.
Second ask is to be involved in the cups and the excitement and possible glory - that's a bonus.
The absolute cherry on thd cake is a trophy or even 2. That is not only wonderful, it's incredible.

Then let's judge over a realistic time frame- 5 years is reasonable to me. If you told me CL qualification and obviously CL games and the odd trophy or 2 in 5 years I think you would have to be pretty mad not feel privileged at that. It's difficult to do that without playing pretty good football - sometimes really good, sometimes not so good.
Within that 5 year cycle lots can happen and also go wrong but I would argue that if all we do is end up top 4 and that's it then I'd take it. Sorry. If that happens this season then from where we started and expectation, it's a bit disappointing but who knows the WC impact, the bent decisions etc.
So to what's happening now, it's decent and not so decent. Use of the squad has seemed strange and we're mot playing that well but panicking and calling for people's heads is losing a sense of perspective. We need to get behind the team and Pep and let's see how the season pans out - this team and manager have more than enough credit in the bloody bank!!!!
That's not to say there are not issues - I'm as frustrated at times as the rest and one result makes another look worse than it is. We surely have learnt by now that the ONLY thing that matters in CL is the result. The ONLY thing. 1-1 away to a very good team is a decent result - and many more people would agree if we had beaten Forest. All footballing dynasties eventually end which our fans need to realise which is why I say in the medium- longer term, to be Top 4 consistently is brilliant.
It's becoming clear that there needs to be a good couple of transfer windows so some weaknesses can be addressed and also we must hope Pep finds his best form soon.
So yes criticise or clap as people see fit but as a match going fan for 50 years, experience says it's not a disaster right now. Let's see how it pans out - but every single game now truly is a cup final and in a cup final you roar your team on no matter what.
Chapeau Sir, Chapeau

My old man used to sing to us a very old City song on such occasions “Int it a pity, that Manchester City, are not the team they were “ and this is currently the case.
Better song was "Who said City couldn't play ..?" And more cheerful.

Sadly it's what we (and by that, for the most part I meant the post-2008 brigade) are becoming, another 'entitled' elite, little better than the Rags, Dippers and the rest we used to so look down upon... I've reached a point of indifference really, I almost yuan for the old days of Swales, cock-up's and early cup exits!

I’ve genuinely never seen the support on here be so negative towards the players and manager and I’ve posted on here for 15 years. It’s got to the point where 1-1 draws away in the CL are being treated by many as if we’ve just lost to bottom of the league. It used to be the match threads but now even the post match threads are just as bad.

People have become so accustomed to an elite football brand that anything below it is now leading to bizarre suggestions that the manager who brought that brand of football should now leave the club.

We’re 2nd in the league (2 points off top), in the 5th round of the cup (beat Chelsea & Arsenal) and in a great position to go through to the quarter finals of the CL. If I was reading some of the comments on here completely blind, I’d think we were having the season Liverpool are having. That’s the level of shit that realistically should lead to some of the comments I’ve seen on here.

You can’t be great every single year. It’s impossible. It’s why we’re the only team since 2009 to retain the title (x2) and why most managers get sacked the year after just one title is won. To win back to back titles for the second time in 5 years and to then be in our current position in the 6th year is immense.

Seriously guys, I can’t believe the absolute misery and unhappiness. If you’re so miserable now then you’re going to be in for a rude awakening when Pep eventually leaves and we have odd ‘really’ bad seasons like Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal all do. Back the manager and team because they’ll come up trump in the end. They always do and if they don’t win the big prizes, they’ll come back again and win them next year.

Edit - I expect the miserable sods to carry on their spoilt brat support act in this very thread :)
While all that is true what I think people are seeing is the level of football we are playing compared to previous seasons - which is seriously below the level which we have played....baring the odd game I cant think of one where we have played anywhere near our level from previous years...

The down turn in performance levels is a concern and people have a right to at least comment on that.

Sure, people do have that right. We’re fans. But it’s the sort of knee jerk reaction that is a bit irritating,

Spot on, we’ve been treated to players, managers, performances and trophies beyond our wildest dreams in the past 15 years and for people to have the expectation that every game will be a convincing win, or every season will result in multiple trophies is spoilt and naive, whether we’re competing for a title or battling relegation, the belief and passion remain the same for me. Once Pep goes, and current players move on, who knows what comes next, but I know I’ll still be supporting with the same passion that has given me so many great days and memories. CTID.

I don’t think it’s knee jerk this season as we are clearly some way off where we were and it’s fair to say that some of Peps decisions recently have been questionable.

However, thankfully we still have a chance of 3 trophies thanks to no other team really standing out and we have played a bit bitter recently apart from 25 mins of the second half yesterday. Arsenal should be out of sight really now but aren’t.

I think our filthy neighbours being on the up is causing a bit of anxiety too! Old habits die hard.

Our eldest (15) has had a season ticket for 10 years. I’ve been going for 30 years. I’ve told him numerous times to enjoy this period in time as it will pass. He’s never known the struggles and has to listen to me talking about Gillingham 99 etc……I’ve a few mates that are Newcastle fans and I’ve said to them to enjoy these early stages of the build as they were fantastic times at City until all the plastics started attending. These Arsenal fans pretty much sum up how I suspect many of us over 40’s are feeling https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/64641090.amp

Traditionally I was at the match and now I’m usually at the pub to see it. If it’s beginning to affect you then don’t read the threads. It’s the internet. It can bring out the worst in people.

Naah. It brings out the worst people. If someone is a twat on here, you can be pretty sure they are a twat in real life. They may not know that, or think that, but I can guarantee you that they are.

I don't see the point of this thread, is it to moan about people moaning?
It's a forum, it's for fans to express themselves. I like reading the comments post match, either positive or negative. Imagine if we were all robotic happy clappers, agreeing with each other. Diverse opinions make a forum lively and interesting.
Opinions are just that, opinions. I have no idea why the OP is so upset about them.
This thread sums up the times, nobody is allowed to have an opinion unless the other people agree, very sad.
