is football purposely overpriced to attract a certain type of person?

Maybe because of the pricing this discourages people from overspending on alcohol?
Thus decreasing security risk.

The matchday ticket sales probably just about covers the players wages for a week, with TV money/sponsorship being the major source of revenue.... So my question is:

Why are tickets so expensive?

- Because We put up and shut up?

Tickets should be way more affordable, this goes for games across every league.
I spent £20 watching Bury Vs. Brentford the other week.

City will eventually price out the supporters who stuck with the club through thick & thin.

A friend of mine is Chinese, his cousin was qouted £85 in China for the Wigan Vs. City match last night... He took my advice and went to DW Stadium, saving £60 with a ticket in the home end.

How can regular matchgoers compete with this?

Ticket prices are pricing alot of people out including me from next season.

If you payed £20 for Bury v Brentford you were robbed, it was only a fiver that game wasn't it?

Quite simply, any big club will charge the maximum possible they feel they can before it reaches the tipping point of people trotting out the "regulars are being priced out" spiel.

I actually don't think ticket prices, moreso season ticket prices, are that expensive at most Premier League sides. I find people add in all the extras - beers, pie, programme, taxis, then moan that they're getting fleeced.

Ticket prices in general are in line with other stuff you might do on a day/night out, like go to the theatre, or the cost of a meal, or a boxing match, or a gig at a big venue.

Financial fair play by Uefa.
It will be no fair play to the fans. If the prices are not high enough now they will will be soon.

I don't find our ST prices that bad at the moment but that's just me. It works out not that expensive per game. All the cup games on top of it are what what it harder for people I think.

The German Bundeslegia has always been a comparative marker, where it is cheaper to watch a top game in Germany than to watch a Blue Square Conference game in England and that can't be right - but.... the German's have the highest attended league in Europe, don't pay stupid wages and don't buy players for stupid prices.

I now (since September) live in the States and last week wanted to get my step lad a ticket for the Boston Bruins for his birthday (Ice Hockey for anyone who doesn't know) - cheapest available was $195 - around £130. Each.
Tickets for all games went on sale in one go before the season started via Ticketbastard.....

So I looked on the Red Sox website (the season hasn't started yet) and all the reasonably priced tickets for all games have gone for the whole season - cheapest available $180 - £120 for every game.
I did the same check for the basketball team, Boston Celtics, and it was the same prices as the ice hockey!

So is the Premier League expensive??? Compared to Germany yes.... but to US sports?? No chance!

German cheap tickets are a kind of myth really, yes they exist for their standing areas but you´ll never find them for sale because they are snapped up long before the season starts.
What´s available are your usual tickets at rates just somewhat lower than in the UK.

Buy a season ticket, that's what any regular match goers need to do.

I don't think of it as a price per game cost as I don't think I could rationise the expense in my head. I prefer to think of my SC as £10 per week for membership of "feeling part of City". It works for me if nothing else.
