Outpriced...

The German Bundeslegia has always been a comparative marker, where it is cheaper to watch a top game in Germany than to watch a Blue Square Conference game in England and that can't be right - but.... the German's have the highest attended league in Europe, don't pay stupid wages and don't buy players for stupid prices.

I now (since September) live in the States and last week wanted to get my step lad a ticket for the Boston Bruins for his birthday (Ice Hockey for anyone who doesn't know) - cheapest available was $195 - around £130. Each.
Tickets for all games went on sale in one go before the season started via Ticketbastard.....

So I looked on the Red Sox website (the season hasn't started yet) and all the reasonably priced tickets for all games have gone for the whole season - cheapest available $180 - £120 for every game.
I did the same check for the basketball team, Boston Celtics, and it was the same prices as the ice hockey!

So is the Premier League expensive??? Compared to Germany yes.... but to US sports?? No chance!

German cheap tickets are a kind of myth really, yes they exist for their standing areas but you´ll never find them for sale because they are snapped up long before the season starts.
What´s available are your usual tickets at rates just somewhat lower than in the UK.

I'm not sure that's true, I was able to get tickets for Bayern against Koln in the last game before the winter break at around £24 for seated tickets or £15 for standing. Season tickets are limited to around 20,000 so there's always lots of availability to buy individual tickets unlike in England where the majority of tickets are season tickets and there is far less availability to buy tickets for individual games.

What do you expect? That is a tout site and we have sold out already.

I don't think of it as a price per game cost as I don't think I could rationise the expense in my head. I prefer to think of my SC as £10 per week for membership of "feeling part of City". It works for me if nothing else.

This is spot on. It's the families that need help and City seem to understand that. £10 a week is fine for most working individuals but for a family to find £40 or £50 would be too much for many.
I'd love to see season card prices stay low. Part of the reason we now sell out must be because there are more SC holders so fewer tickets to be sold. Being a great team to watch and being successful also help!

Over 2 weeks of your feeling was my entry cost for Dagenham & Redbridge vs Hereford United on Saturday. £22 to be precise. My seasoncard at City was £507 which is just shy of £27 a match. £5 for top of the Premiership vs demotion dog fight in a tin shed of a ground.

is football purposely overpriced to attract a certain type of person?

Maybe because of the pricing this discourages people from overspending on alcohol?
Thus decreasing security risk.

The matchday ticket sales probably just about covers the players wages for a week, with TV money/sponsorship being the major source of revenue.... So my question is:

Why are tickets so expensive?

- Because We put up and shut up?

Tickets should be way more affordable, this goes for games across every league.
I spent £20 watching Bury Vs. Brentford the other week.

City will eventually price out the supporters who stuck with the club through thick & thin.

A friend of mine is Chinese, his cousin was qouted £85 in China for the Wigan Vs. City match last night... He took my advice and went to DW Stadium, saving £60 with a ticket in the home end.

How can regular matchgoers compete with this?
With an army of tourist's prepared to pay XXX more than us for a seat.

Introduce SAFE Standing City.

Buy a season ticket, that's what any regular match goers need to do.
And this season the cheapest adult season ticket at City was £260 = £13.70 a game

Match-day pricing and Cups feels expensive when you have already paid fora season ticket.

I suspect that ticket prices will flat-line around where they are now as much of the cost pressure in football has past its peak......look how quiet the transfer market is. Clubs are cutting back.

Nothing really, it was an example of what the OP was stating about big prices for Premier league games.

Yeah but they are not City's prices though so it's unfair to say City V Spurs costs £120.

It's not just football but I do think it is priced to put some of society off.All major sporting events are expensive. In football you do have high wages to cover but that's not the same for all sports.£ 95.00 each for England v Australia one day international next summer at Lords I'm sure cricketers don't get nearly as much as footballers but it will sell out.The one that I don't get is lower league football. The grounds are often sparsley populated but the admission price is high.In most cases it comes down to supply and demand but not in lower leagues and I don't understand why
