Outside Maine Road...6th November 1971....3-3 Derby Day Pictures

Never wear red on derby day, in fact try to never wear red.
I suspect them two lads(pic4) are reds....they look a bit fish out of water types.
Pic 2 seems to have been taken outside turnstiles which utd fans were congregating in...not sure if there was segregation back in 71,but far too much red on show....

My first Derby I was 15, brilliant game and felt like win as we equalised so late. No segregation crowd split two thirds blue one third red less mother than I expected. On the he train back to the Fylde Coast after the match a mob of reds tried to intimidate half a dozen blues including a black guy. The black chap pulled an axe from under his coat and the rags fled jumping off the train at Bolton. The rags had a reputation as being the hardest fans round which I now know was built on sheer numbers and soft targets. Seeing them shit themselves and run rounded off an excellent day.
