Outside Maine Road...6th November 1971....3-3 Derby Day Pictures

When the North Stand was finished being built it was all standing for one full season, I can only think the club could not afford the seats ?. The atmosphere was so good, all the Kippax boys moved in for the one season, and we had a lot of fun. The only thing was, the Police used to push us forwards in the main block, which was to the right under the new electronic scoreboard,(looking towards the pitch) they wouldn't let us stand behind the tunnels, you could in the other blocks, but not the one with all the crazy gang. The sound generated was incredible, I think if we had stayed with standing in the North Stand, our fortunes could have been so different, and I think we would have attracted more fans, due to the great atmosphere it generated, what a season.
First went into the North stand for the Chelsea ECWC semi and was in there sat on crash barriers with my dad at the side of me until at least the end of 71/72 when we almost/should have won the league.

Wasnt there that day but in reference to the old times..My old man worked in Trafford Park for AEI,two uncles worked for Brown and Polson..as Trafford Park closed,my old man got transferred to Leeds,GEC..He let me get the train to Picadilly over the Penines as a 15 yr old and met up with my cousin from Chorlton where we used to live. We would go to matches and at that age we were really scared. After the match, we would walk/run to the Polish Club/Church off ? Lloyd Street.Always left early to avoid any trouble. Met my uncle who was Polish ,at the club.. Deyna came there a few times.Memories of the Kippax were never having a good view and and skipping the urine streams from Rangers fans behind us.In those days it was music or football or both. Whilst it was terrifying, there was something real about those times that does not exist now.

I was at that game as a very young teen and in the North Stand which as others have said a lot of the Kippax lads had migrated to. Not all did and there was often a lot of banter between the stands, " Come in the Kippax/North stand" and "You'll never take the Kippax/North Stand."

I remember McIlroy scoring at the North stand, a young skinny kid with long hair. I swear he ran off celebrating giving the V sign to us behind the goal as he did so. There was no designated segregation back then but the rags generally went into the Platt Lane. A few did used to go into the scoreboard end and when Mcllory scored they all jumped up to celebrate and got the shock of their lives as they were attacked from.all sides. They hadn't realised it was now a staunch City end but they soon found out.

McIlroy played in the 1976 and 1977 FA Cup finals tbf.
Yeah i know.i meant to put highest league crowd ,forgot, and it was only tounge in cheek anyway ..set up to catch out drunk professional men if you like..oops. ;)

Lets not forget Sammy mac went down with the doc in 74.

And his equalizing goal in the 79 cup final after utd were 2nil down ,which brought it back it to 2-2 ..was almost immediately surpassed and blocked out by Alan sunderlands dramatic winner for Arsenal.
Everyone can remember this ....Brady jinxs past a defenderin midfield, surges forward in the very last minute of the game...plays it out wide to Rix, who slings a high deep cross to the far post
" Baileys missed it! Sunderland !! 3-2!!!"

Very entertaining..
