Overseas Aid - the Debate

I am fine with us sending aid to countries that need it.

But if shouldn't be going to places like India and Brazil who have enough money to look after their own poor.

I'm not sure if we do, but America certainly does.
Aren't they 2nd in the world in terms of how much aid they receive?

Oh yes, the Sherman's have been bankrolling them for years.
I very much hope we aren't giving them a penny personally.

I'm sure there are plenty of countries who rely on aid from the world's richest countries. I think though, the county that receives the aid should be able to account for every penny and show to the countries providing the aid where the money has been spent, if they can't account for it then they don't get it the next year. I also think that the government made a big mistake ring fencing overseas aid during these times of austerity.

Sounds shit but I'd cut all state aid.

Charity starts at home and we already our own problems.

Just my view, I personally believe that we have all have a set of cards when we are born, I got a good set and some get a better or worse, trick is to make the best of what you have. Shit happens, we move on. It's our countries duty to look after our own. Right now we need to sort our own shit out.

My personal view is that world debt needs to be ended and then cut all ties. I believe countries then have the ability to build to build their own futures. I like charities but no handing over money. If we are to give to poor countries then it should be with our own charities which are stationed and monitored out there. Not a fan of handing money to a government directly, it is open to abuse (Zimbabwe for instance).

I believe we give 12-15 billion in aid and add this to the amount we throw at Brussels you can see why we are in the shit..imo

UK that's it. Greece, Portugal, Spain and Italy. The only time they should get our money is when we visit on holiday or buy something from them imho.

The 'aid' we give to other countries has very little to do with helping the people and everything to do with juicy contracts that net the UK billions in the long term.

I also remember reading in the private eye that most of this aid goes to 'world' banks to be held for a number of years where huge interests rates/gains are made off them, and since politicians are owned by banks it's no surprise that 'aid' keeps rising.

Also does anyone know where Bongo Bongo land is? I want to buy some cheap Ray Bans.

I've written off my debt many times and got back in to it again quickly by spending too much again, basically meaning that I always end up in debt even after clearing it all.
What would you do if the 3rd world countries are just as bad at spending money as I am and end up in big debt again 6 months after their debt has all been written off?
