Overseas Aid - the Debate

Trade not aid. We don't need to be giving handouts. we need to be finding ways these countries can become self sufficient.. They more than likely have something to offer in return if it is looked for. So we create trade and give them work and investment. We use our engineers to go and help build reservoirs etc, where water is scarce.
Give training to their health services. Money can only go so far. And we have spent trillions so far that has gone nowhere near helping.

This. Plus supplying countries in need of aid with British built machines and tools etc, rather than cash, thus providing a boost to our economy whilst helping theirs.

The fact is this country is dealing in arms and financial services for the greater part and the financial services are not doing to well. We need to subsidise arms contracts to maintain our defence industry and keep the economy alive.

Bongo bongo land '' that's surely the nail in the coffin for any UKIP voter who thought they were a serious party

No problem giving aid , but not money that we the tax payer have had to borrow . So I suggest all the bunkers and politician's give their money instead

Having worked in a developing country for a charity for a year (not just a short trip) my opinion on charities has changed completely. A lot of people live very comfortably off the charitable donations and I found this quite unpalatable. I know only donate to small focused charities that have a definite achievable and measurable goal.

I need to change my location thanks to that muppet!

-- Wed Aug 07, 2013 7:18 pm --

In my defence it was because they drink it in the Congo.....
