Overseas support

I think you'll find it's the same morons who sing songs about the Munich air crash. I was on a train back from Middlesbrough with some of them once. They're thick, racist idiots.

I had similar in Gelsenkirchen for the Schalke game a few years back. Got the tram to the ground with some Germans we'd been drinking with in the city centre, and who couldn't have been more hospitable, when half a dozen complete bell wafts got on and decided to treat the carriage to 20 minutes worth of aggressive "Two World Wars and one World Cup" style singing, even though other Blues tried shouting them down and telling them to belt up. Cringeworthy

Manchester has been a widely diverse city for years. We've had a massive Irish prescence in the city, Jewish and Chinese population and more recently Indian and Pakistani so it's hardly surprising that the make up of the match going attendance reflects that. Our recent success on the field naturally attracts more tourists, given the opportunity, which football fan wouldn't want to see the likes of Sergio, Silva, Kompany and Yaya, player wise we're better equipped than the tags to attract neutrals. The seats next to me aren't taken by a season card this year and it's become a standing joke between us as to what nationality will occupy them this week. Last 6 games I've had Russians, Chinese, Iranians, Australians, 2 guys from West Virginia, and a couple from Glasgow.

I dont think our crowd reflects manchester at all. The majority of it is white british Middle Aged men. Then a few hundred tourists each match

I think that the problem came about from the decades where we were shite. People invented all sorts of shit to justify to themselves
why they supported City and not the evil empire. Their imagined reasons for being a Blue became the standard in their own minds
for judging other fans "Blueness".

A group of us used to go to games together and my mate used to JOKE that only one of our number was a "Category 1" Blue. To be a "Category 1" Blue you had to have been born within the boundaries of the City of Manchester and be Protestant. My mate who is Catholic and from Gorton was himself therefore only "Category 2" while I was the same being Protestant but from Stockport. I've had shit in the past on loads of occasions from other Blues when they found out I was from Cheadle (even though the team trained a quarter of a mile from where I lived back in the 1960s!) and been told that I wasn't a real Blue.

If local Blues from Greater Manchester and the surrounding area look for nonsensical reasons to differentiate themselves from each other
then God help any poor sod from outside the area who hasn't a hope of meeting any of the criteria that some of our support deem
necessary to be a "Blue". I've not even touched on race here but one thing's for sure Sheikh Mansour wouldn't tick any of the boxes that
an element of our support deem necessary to tick in order to be a "Blue".

I think things are changing but there is still a certain parochial element to some of our support and a feeling that it's a members only club
(yes I do tick the York away box) in certain fans eyes. It needs to continue to change. ALL ARE WELCOME. If you are reading this overseas
don't let the dickheads put you off they are a minority.

I'm in deep shit then, born in Bolton now live in Newcastle

I welcome blues from all over the world to our fine club.
However if you don't live within the M60 your not a real fan...

That lets me out then.

I'm 64, have watched City since 1959, home, away and abroad. Born and bred in Ashton, now live in Woodley. Seasoncard holder in 304, pissed in the sink in Barcelona.

Heartbroken to know I'm not a real fan. :-(

No problem with any genuine City supporter no matter where they were born or where they live.

If our overseas support grows, good for the club in its aim to become one (if not the) biggest club in the world.

As long as no supporter gets priced out of watching City, if they can, (the club needs to work on lowering ticket prices from the hikes over the last 3 years in particular), and the club continues to work with the local community, then fine, all Blues welcome.
