Owning a nice watch

Some of the descriptions of watches on here sound great...but unless you don't have a mobile phone, can't see the point of a watch anymore??

There's definitely a point of a watch. Just no point of a watch that costs thousands when you can get watches that do all the same for very little.

Go to a gym, pool or Spa, you can't always have your phone (or might choose to keep it locked up) but might to track your times or just keep an eye on the clock.

It's jewellery for middle aged men. Some will choose to buy a private number plate instead, and that option doesn't make you more likely to be the victim of a crime.

Not always no. Useful in steam rooms where there is almost never a timer.

You can easily get by without a watch, but it's still less convenient to have to get your phone out of your pocket every time you want to check the time. Now if you were comparing it to a pocket watch, fair enough.

For me, it's timing things where the main benefit comes from. I'm a teacher and it's so much easier to just look at the second hand on my watch rather than having to set a timer on my phone. It's the same with cooking. For longer things, setting a timer and leaving it is fine, but for something like a steak, where I want to do 2 minutes a side between flips, it's easier to just use my watch.

Having said that, I bought one watch 20 years ago and have not had another one since. I left it in the UK at Christmas though, so I've been without it since then, hence why I know all of the things I find just slightly more annoying about not having it.

Sick to death of swapping the batteries in a time piece, so we gave our three quartz collection to the grandchildren and proceeded over to H Samuels in Bury.

After a 10% price haggle to match their online deal presence we walked off into the Art Picture House, safe in the knowledge that Timothy's esteemed clientele would be Super Impressed on the way in, and also safe in the knowledge that we wouldn't be turned over on the way back out : /

I'm with Bob on the Citizen watches. I brought the below for my boys when I was last home. They didn't realise just how much technology is in them until they read the instructions.
