He has been one of Gironas best players this season, and is in my opinion better than Danilo. I have watched Girona several times this year, and he always plays well. The media says that the key to Gironas success has been their wing-backs (Maffeo and Mojica). Maffeo played in the league cup against the rags last season, and he had Rashford in his pocket the whole game. Even though I hate Rashford, I have to admit that he is a player who is hard to defend against, because he always runs at the defenders at full speed, but Maffeo still kept him quiet that night. There are still things he has to improve, but he offers much more to the team than Danilo in my opinion.
I have not seen much of him recently but read that he has been playing well. as one of the few loanees that has broken through at girona I'm sure he will get a chance. Maybe a permanent move to gerona, with a buy back might be an option? I'm not convinced yet by danilo but he hasn't had a consistent run yet.

It makes no sense to sell him. He`s homegrown, an academy graduate and he would not cost us an enormous transfer fee. He did well in the champions league and against the rags last year, and he has improved a lot since then

Then lets be confident he will be in the first team squad next season! Maffeo, Zinchenko, Phil and Brahim. That would be an excellent outcome and a sign of our academy beginning to mature.

And Gunn as second choice keeper? Diaz might go on loan somewhere. Gunn, Maffeo, Phil and maybe Angelino and Diaz in the first team would be great.

It would be. As long as they can be patient and be content with learning, some rotation opportunity and appearances in cup competitions. Lets face it, good though they are, Eddie, Kyle, Benjamin, Dave, Kev, Raz and Leroy will take some displacing. Thats not even considering the others like Gundo and Bernardo. The best that we can hope for is that they get their opportunities over the course of a couple of seasons and start to put some pressure on those currently ahead of them.

I watched about 50% of Girona games, think PM was good, but far from outstanding. Very tenacious defensively, but not a great attacker. His current ability is more or less equal to Danilo's, can't see how Maffeo's presence in the squad would've made City any stronger.

It becomes more or less obvious (for me at least) that Maffeo's loan and Danilo's purchase was a mistake. But I guess there's nothing the club can do about it now. You can't ship out Danilo after one season like some damaged goods. I'm afraid selling Maffeo with a buyback clause would be logical, equally benefitting City and PM in the long term. I think Valencia were interested.

Don`t understand how it would be beneficial for City to sell an academy player who is actually good enough to be a second choice RB at the age of 20. He is one of the best U21 RB`s in the world currently

He's young and needs to play as a starter. Remember, Madrid sold Carvajal as he couldn't get enough playing time, and look how it turned out.
