Pablo Maffeo

What a joke. We'll never see a player graduate directly from the academy to being a regular in the senior squad unless there are fundamental changes in thinking at the senior managerial level of the club. I'm convinced that he is good enough. The club should have been brave enough to take what represents only a minor risk. If we had failed next season, it would not have been because we took a chance on Maffeo over retaining Danilo. What kind of message does this send to Foden, Diaz and the other academy players that dream of playing for this club? You'll never know what these kids are capable of unless you give them a real run in the team. It's clear that the academy is becoming little more than a money-making device.
Are you willing to give youngesters a chance and give up titles? Bc that is what will happen.. it’s hard for a modern coach at a big club to give youngesters chances and lose a couple games then everyone will say he needs to be fired. It’s a fine line

Do you want to explain what you disagree with rather than making snide remarks?

I'm not being snide. I'm actually aghast that 24 hours after we've obtained 100 points, in a season where 4-5 academy players have broken through and two have become the youngest EVER players to win a premier league medal, you're making a stupid comment like that.

The club's handling of the integration from Academy to first team this season has been exemplary and something to be proud of.

At the level we are at and want to be we will only be bring through exceptional talent like we have with Diaz and Foden. There would be uproar from most if we risked points, let alone titles and cups to “give the kids a chance”. The rest ,good though they may be ,will be moved on for profit. The idea that every good product from the academy will get his chance simply won’t happen with a squad of our size, depth and cost.

Did you even read what I have written? Do you really think that promoting Maffeo would have scuttled our chances next season? I'm not asking the club to promote kids that are not physically ready in their development, like Foden and Diaz. This is a choice between Danilo and Maffeo, and I'd choose the latter.

Can’t believe they’ve moved him on.
I thought he would have been the better option than Danilo. Just hope he gets the opportunities he deserves now.
Good luck.

Firstly, this has got nothing to do with the recent achievements of the club. Secondly, 4-5 academy players have NOT broken through. This is a gross distortion of the reality. Foden and Diaz have played something like 70 minutes combined all season in the Premier League. Most of that was introductions in the final minutes of games that had already been won and after the title looked all but confirmed. The only other academy player I can recall getting any minutes at all is Nmecha. In no way can this be described as "breaking through".

The only player to have been materially promoted to the senior squad in recent years is Iheanacho. And that was through need rather than anything else. He was sold that very summer.

Moaners gonna moan!

I think some Blues had so many years of crap and disappointment that they are addicted to it and seek out scenarios to get their fix.

Maffeo was not going to get in the squad as a right back next season, his contract has a year to run and he needs games so this is a good move for all parties.

I was disappointed when Ben Mee, Kieran Trippier and George Evans left and am glad they are playing successfully at a reasonably high level. Would I have any of them back now? - no and I think Pablo falls into the same bracket.

Re. Danilo I think that he could really push on next season - he is better than Walker with the ball and that finish last week - wow!

Danilo is a £30m, Brazilian international, champions league winning fullback who has won titles in Portugal, Spain and now England. Pablo Maffeo is a kid who has had one solid but unspectacular year playing wingback for a midtable Spanish side. They don't remotely compare at this stage. Maffeo might have potential, but right now, he's nowhere near Danilo. If he wasn't one of our academy players, literally no one would be calling for us to sign him on the basis of his career so far.

I'm disappointed we've not given him a chance to show what he can do here, but anyone saying he's better than Danilo is delusional.

Very surprised at this. He looked ready to be part of our first team squad. Really worries me that the EDS is just a ‘profit centre’ rather than giving genuine opportunities to some promising youngsters.
I said all along it's nothing more than a cash cow, you'll get the odd one or two being cherry picked but that's about it
