There will only be a handful of academy players that make it into our first team. being realistic to get into our squad you have to be in the top 10 in world football in your position. It will still appeal to youngsters as they get a top grade education and coaching then loaned into Europe's top leagues were they get exposure .

Funny, yesterday we brought on Diaz and Foden at 0-0 and the game finished 1-0 to City.

There's no evidence to suggest that playing youngsters loses you points, let alone titles. It's probably the opposite as you end up with more strength in depth beyond the permitted 25-man senior squad.

Sad that Maffeo hasn't had a chance here but accept it would have been unfair to Danilo to move him on after a fairly decent season. Shame we didn't get Alves last summer though as a transition from him to Maffeo may have been more likely this summer.

Danilo is a £30m, Brazilian international, champions league winning fullback who has won titles in Portugal, Spain and now England. Pablo Maffeo is a kid who has had one solid but unspectacular year playing wingback for a midtable Spanish side. They don't remotely compare at this stage. Maffeo might have potential, but right now, he's nowhere near Danilo. If he wasn't one of our academy players, literally no one would be calling for us to sign him on the basis of his career so far.

I'm disappointed we've not given him a chance to show what he can do here, but anyone saying he's better than Danilo is delusional.

Danilo has had a handful of good games this season. From what I have seen of Maffeo, I would not say that Danilo is a better player. Perhaps you should watch back our friendly against Girona.

What a joke. We'll never see a player graduate directly from the academy to being a regular in the senior squad unless there are fundamental changes in thinking at the senior managerial level of the club.

Erm..... three have done this season and have the medals to prove it.

Always liked Pablo and thought of him as a mini Zaba, disappointed he’s gone more on an individual level than the whole academy picture, because it’s clear that it’s a cash cow rather than to actually produce players for the first team
