Pablo Maffeo

Farce. He evidently didn't see his future here and I don't blame him. Should have got his chance in 16/17.

Club needs to pull their fingers out of their arse and react to losing these big talents in Maffeo and Sancho. Both should be playing in this team right now.

They keep on talking the talk about the academy, but nothing will change until they start playing. Token minutes isn't enough. These talented youngsters are starting to see the grass is greener elsewhere and it's going to get worse when they see success stories of those who left.

Can’t deny I’m a bit gutted about this but trust in Pep and his team right decision for everyone. Crap 10 years ago 10 mill fee wot have have been huge

Disappointing news that Maffeo hasn't been given a crack at the first team and there isn't a buy back clause, but both Walker and Danilo are well ahead and he could do with more game at this stage of his career.

To be honest, I never entirely saw him as the sort of fullback we need. He's an excellent, scrappy, defensive fullback who I think is going to have a very good career, I just don't see that attacking threat that we need from out fullbacks. Angelino is probably a worse player, but much better suited to what we need from our fullbacks. I think he could easily play as a right sided Delph though.

Still makes no sense to sell him without giving him a chance to prove whether he can do it though, as he's done all anyone could ask to get a shot.

There is a serious lack of cohesion between our academy and the first team at the moment and it's very disappointing. Apparently we can give Zinchenko a bunch of games in a position he's never played before and looks pretty unsuited to, but players who have worked their way up, jumped through all the hoops, can't get a chance. Then you see us constantly linked with other 18/19 year olds and you just think, why do we bother having our own hugely promising kids if they aren't even considered?

What a joke. We'll never see a player graduate directly from the academy to being a regular in the senior squad unless there are fundamental changes in thinking at the senior managerial level of the club. I'm convinced that he is good enough. The club should have been brave enough to take what represents only a minor risk. If we had failed next season, it would not have been because we took a chance on Maffeo over retaining Danilo. What kind of message does this send to Foden, Diaz and the other academy players that dream of playing for this club? You'll never know what these kids are capable of unless you give them a real run in the team. It's clear that the academy is becoming little more than a money-making device.

Is this some kind of joke?
