Plus you can hardly blame Labour for the sentence: they set down the guidelines for sentencing (say, for example, x to y number of years),

This is exactly why I do blame Labour for the sentence. Although the judge also needs to be held to account.

I'm not sure why you blame Labour/the Government. Have a look at the sentencing guidelines for rape on the Home Office website, the punishments called for are very stiff. However, this guy wasn't convicted of rape, which may account for the sentence.

I blame Labour for their soft-arsed attitude on everything from crime to immigration. Britain has gone to shit.

I don't agree with vigilante justice, but I do believe in harsh punishments for criminals by the state.

If the punishment fits the crime, vigilante gangs will not exist.
