Paedophilia within the game/City launch redress scheme

Was jailed for two years last year.
Wouldn't put it past him the horrible ****.
If you're talking about Bennel, he was released again, and was living under an assumed name in Milton Keynes until this broke, its been on our local news, he's obviously gone elsewhere now, as the news showed footage on Thursday of the police leaving his home there with 'some possessions' and his pet dog.

Looks like it's been taken down from Twitter now but in case you ever needed proof of the fact that Red Issue are utter vermin, here it is.

Red Issue have a track record over the decades of similarly tasteless stuff. Just seen that the tweet in question was covered by F365 in their Mediawatch column last Friday

This is what they said:

Tribal idiocy

You may be aware of Manchester United fanzine Red Issue, and therefore hardly be shocked that their view on the world is vehemently red-tinted. That’s their job, really.

But when the Guardian’s Daniel Taylor reported on convicted paedophile Barry Bennell, who had spent time as a Manchester City talent-spotter, Red Issue judged it an appropriate time to make a point.

‘Anyone else have feeling ex-City players citing sexual abuse as factor for not realising their supposed “potential” is going to catch on?’ they tweeted on Thursday evening, since deleted.

No, nobody else does have that feeling. Not unless they’re so intrinsically wrapped up in their club that they see horrific sexual abuse as a chance for point-scoring.

‘Please refrain from posting anything racist, libellous or inflammatory,’ Red Issue’s homepage reminds users. They’ve certainly set the bar of decency pretty low.

Hard to argue, really.

By the way, apologies if this has been posted before, but I haven't seen it on the thread. The attached piece from the Guardian details the story of a kid who was captain of the City-backed boys' side in the 1980s and fought off an attempt by Bennell to abuse him: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/nov/25/child-abuse-in-football

I thought it worth posting because it seems the clearest explanation so far as to what exactly Bennell's link with City was.

I think what this story clearly shows is how Bennell manipulated & destroyed those kids, say no & I'll ruin you!

Easy to see how he got away with it anyone strong enough to expose him was seen as someone with an axe to grind who couldn't be trusted.

Yes, I agree with that. Many of the kids involved would have been too terrified to say anything, but that article shows how Bennell was able to ensure that no one would believe a more assertive boy who might have said something.

Also illustrative is this kind of pied piper thing Bennell had going on, where he did all kinds of stuff that the kids loved, such as the arcade games at his house. I read that the ex-City director Chris Muir said that Bennell was considered a bit odd but no one worried because he delivered the goods. You can see (even though they were obviously wrong) how people in football 25 or 30 years ago could brush off a complaint such as the one City reportedly had about him sleeping in the same room as the kids given that many people weren't very clued up about these issues then and were undoubtedly complacent: "Oh, that's just Barry's way. He's a bit unusual, but the lads all think the world of him."

Which of course they did until he abused them or they crossed him. Shows the level of cunning that a lot of predatory paedophiles have in terms of creating an environment in which they can abuse without being caught.

Incidentally, I see that the FA is holding an inquiry: https://www.ft.com/content/e4314782-b4ab-11e6-ba85-95d1533d9a62 (the link is freely accessible at the time of posting but may go behind the FT's paywall at some point)

on Sunday [the FA] said it had asked Kate Gallafent QC to assist its internal investigation into the claims, adding that a "wide-ranging inquiry may be required'.

“The internal review will look into what information the FA was aware of at the relevant times around the issues that have been raised in the press, what clubs were aware of, and what action was or should have been taken,” said the FA in a statement. “Ms Gallafent will make recommendations in order to seek to ensure these situations can never be repeated.”

The Dispatches programme broadcast in 1997 and referred to in this thread can be found on You Tube:

The MEN is reporting that Bennell has been detained in hospital in Stevenage: http://www.manchestereveningnews.co...ews/barry-bennell-rushed-to-hospital-12241151

A Police spokesman said that a 62-year-old man was taken in for medical treatment last Friday evening after "police officers attended an address ... in connection with a fear for welfare incident," and he remains in hospital. The local Ambulance Service said they were called to the scene and found an unconscious man.

Sounds like a suicide attempt. Or, if anyone has specialist experience of this kind of situation, is that not a conclusion we can leap to at this stage?
