Paedophilia within the game/City launch redress scheme

About 10/15 years ago I worked with a lad who had been on the books of Newcastle when he was a kid. Although he was never abused himself, he told me a similar tale as that of last night. His father went to one of the clubs directors and they never heard anything more. Now this lad has a lot of mental issues and I believe it all goes back to that time.

Feel the lads who have now come forward are truly brave and I have nothing but respect for them. Hope they can find some peace now.

It doesn't excuse their behaviour in any way, but usually, paedophiles are victims themselves. There's a cyclical nature to the problem.

The fact Bennel's cousin ended up murdering/raping two women makes me think they were likely replicating the trauma they experienced in their own childhoods.

No, you ARE excusing their behaviour. So don't say it at all. It's a myth that "usually" they are victims themselves "replicating" their childhood. That is an insult to survivors of childhood abuse, and survivors have enough to deal with without people perpetuating the myth that "you never know, they may go on to abuse now they've grown up".
I have a friend who used to work with childhood survivors at a Manchester centre having also done diplomas and extensive work in this field (as well as knowing something about it myself on a personal level, and via the centre and my friend) - and i just had to post my reply to your post, because no matter how well intentioned you meant it, you should not be saying things like that, it tars survivors and excuses the abuser, as well as having no proof as a statement at all.

The truth is I struggled to watch this series. Seeing White and Stewart, in particular, made me so sad as a City fan. Football, the Catholic church, TV (Saville etc), politicians (Cyril Smith,Clement Freud and his link to Maddie McCann), have a lot to answer for . Believe me those perverts have not suddenly disappeared from the upper echelons of society. Any paedophile is disgusting, but I find the concept of people in power,in positions of trust, more reprehensible. I dont know if that makes sense.

Very moving to see Paul Stewart and David White and other victims, Ian Ackley, Dean Radford and Andy Woodward, talk so openly and honestly about the horrors of what happened to them. Paul and David are guys we all loved watching play for us - two immense players. God only knows how they achieved what they did after suffering so much. What comes across loud and clear is that both of them seem to believe they're not the guys they were meant to be. Both them and the other victims now carry the weight of the world on their shoulders. How on earth did that excuse for a human being manage to get away his evil depravity for so long?

Sadly. Benel wasn't an isolated case.

Just watching on Iplayer, city not covering themselves in any glory from that period but I suppose that’s an easy conclusion, im hoping it moves on to Dario, he gave me the creeps when I had trials at Crewe, however, there’s a reason the way they profile and target..
Paul and David are indeed heroes for speaking out. I'm certain that other victims will now have the courage to speak out.

I knew who Bennelll was ,(at a distance fortunately) by playing youth football around 1975 way before any of the historic charges were mentioned I understood he had a connection with a team called Senrab which had Chelsea FC connection s never seen any mention of this , after a City home match me and about 6 mate's were waiting for a102 bus at Princess road bus stop back to town when he was in a black transit van with 2 lads passengers we jumped in the back and were dropped in town we would have been 14 / 15 year's old putting him about 20ish so close to evil he seemed a decent lad but I suppose that was all part of his act
When I was 11/12/13 (in 72/73/74) I played the odd game for a Sunday under 13s team in the East Manchester and District League. We were from North Manchester and used to play a team called Senrab who were based in Hulme and played at a pitch on Jackson Crescent. They played with twin centre forwards - Roger Palmer (City and Oldham) and Peter Coyne (United) and Jan Novaki (Bolton). They were a fierce aggressive team - looked much older than 13 - used to thrash us and everyone else 10 - 0, 12 - 1 etc. What was the connection with the Hulme Senrab ?
