Pagers can kill

How did they get the explosives in the pagers?
Did they somehow provide the papers for their use and waited to detonate?

They must have intercepted some communication about the pagers being delivered, then intercepted the deliveries or even replaced them before waiting to press the button... James Bond stuff!

The Israelis are very well versed in the 'we can get you anywhere' type of attacks.
 
They weren't Motorola pagers.

They were Gold Apollo. And possibly manufactured by a licensee. Israel either placed an order of their own and swapped them out or manufactured counterfeit devices. It seems unlikely that they were intercepted and taken apart and put back together.
