My girlfriend left her job in October and got her payed into her bank, as usual.
Now we have had a letter off her previous employer, saying that they had
payed her too much. Apparently they should have deducted some days holidays,
that she had taken but not accrued for the year. They say we have to pay it by 23rd December
or they will put it to their recovery agents.

Anyone know where we stand on this, as it's a bloody awkward time to be sending demands.

I was once paid over ten grand by a former employer, three years after I'd left. Once they caught up with me I gave them half back and the person responsible got sacked.
