Palestine Action

You said ‘to stop the genocide’. The genocide will only stop when Israel has gained enough of the land of Gaza as they set out to take. Nothing I do will do anything to stop that.

Do you tell your MP about everything you have an issue with?
So you are doing nothing.

You could have emailed your MP rather than post on here saying nothing you do will make a difference.

There was one on the first day, where an officer was telling someone they would have to remove their banners even though they didn't say Palestine Action anywhere. I haven't seen any since then, to be fair. But then I don't look for them.

very few, if that was the actual policy there would have been thousands of arrests rather than the hundreds that are 95% carrying 'Palestine Action' placards.

I don't think it was policy, I think it was a lack of proper training. The copper was basically saying that he was expressing views that are in line with those of a banned terror group. I imagine they've had guidance in the past to avoid things like the same group popping up under a different name, and the policeman has just overapplied it. I try to give them the benefit of the doubt tbh.

I think in a normal time, I'd agree. But I think if we look at it in the context, with multiple day riots looking to get out of control, there was a deliberate policy to come down on a tonne of bricks on these things to act as a deterrent. And it worked. I'd have no problem with these people being let out early though. Incidentally, I also said that I'd be in favour of the government treating members of Palestine Action likewise, and giving them extremely harsh sentences for the damage they caused to the plane. What I'm not in favour of is rushing through terrorist legislation because it's easier than actually letting the existing laws deal with them. What we're currently seeing is the consequences of the government completely failing to make the case. Their entire case for them being banned is a couple of bits of criminal damage and "some more stuff we can't tell you about yet, but trust us." And let's be honest, a lot of people have been burned before by 'trust us' from a Labour government on the Middle East.
I agree. A community service order is better for those in Palestine Action if they break the law. It is futile arresting thousands of people for political tweets. Both sides should be treated equally. The police have got better things to do.Soon they will be able to arrest pensioners for not doing an eye test!

or at least ban them from driving

If, in November, I write: “the court case in which Palestine Action are suing the gov starts today. I support the case PA are making.” I am now, according to the gov, a supporter of terrorism, liable to 14 years imprisonment.

I think you would be fine saying that. So saying 'I don't think Palestine Action are Terrorists" would be ok. Saying "I support Palestine Action" is not ok because they are currently proscribed. If they become unproscribed then you can say "I support Palestine Action". Subtle difference but fair I think.

Yes, except that we have a witness on here from the Met police who says they are instructed to arrest anybody who utters, in print or speech, the word ‘Palestine’.
How about if I say :”I support Palestine’s action against HMG?” (Rhetorical question.)

Is this illegal?

"Proscription of Palestine Action is a disproportionate interference with freedom of expression and freedom of assembly. That's reasonably arguable."

If it is, the Met will need to arrest the judge who ruled that, and has sent the case to the high court.

I've no idea what the guidance is or isn't from the Met on this so I'm not going to claim that I know. What I do know is that the police have been known to arrest people for simply holding up placards criticising Israel's actions in Gaza. I don't believe this is necessarily a blanket order from the top but it could be that some police don't know what always constitutes an arrestable offence regarding pro-Palestinian protestors.

I do think over 500 arrests for what I understand was a pretty peaceful protest is way OTT and it'd be interesting to know how many of those arrested were supporting Palestine Action as opposed to Palestine

Wow. Seriously you're trying to say Palestinians are indifferent to being bombed, starved, and have land stolen?

I can't be bothered with the rest of your Netanyahu propaganda.
Do you think that Hamas is an evil and ruthless organisation?

Yes, I saw that post. I have not seen it reported anywhere else (not to say it is not true) but come on, taking a post off bluemoon as the 'truth' rather than propaganda? I'd want further evidence from one of the big hitting news outlets. Furthermore it does not actually make any sense at all as you would have to arrest virtually everyone on any Palestine protest and that is almost certainly illegal in itself. So, at this stage, and without further corroboration I do not believe it. If concrete evidence emerges then yes, a fucking illegal travesty, but for now just hearsay.
