Our government, along with any other government in the UN, can criticise Israel til they're blue in the face. Sadly, until the terrorist state of America stops providing Israel the green light, absolutely nothing will change.
Nonsense, Israel is its own nation and depends on nobody else. The idea that Israel is America's lackey is laughable. If anything it's the other way around. American public opinion is massively with Israel, on top of that American politicians feel enormous pressure from the highly influential AIPAC. American Presidents are very limited with their possible responses to Israel. However, EVEN IF, the United States suddenly stopped giving Israel aid or selling them arms, it wouldn't matter. Israel has a very strong economy and would simply do what it did before the late 1960s which is buy from France or possibly Britain. It already gets submarines from Germany. Israel does not need the United States and it certainly doesn't act on its behalf. People who believe that have no clue about how strong it is economically, militarily, technologically and most especially cannot fathom Israeli political will.

They were playing on the sea port, tragic, 7 others injured by the same strike all boys and men
Are you trying to say they weren't on a beach? The news stories, photos and videos strongly indicate they were playing on a beach.

The port is surrounded by beach but the mail reported

- "Missiles fired from Israeli gunboats killed four young boys who were playing in Gaza's seaport earlier this afternoon"

Read more: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2694011/Israel-leaflet-drops-Gaza-warning-Palestinians-evacuate-army-intensifies-airstrikes.html#ixzz37iC19s34" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... z37iC19s34</a>

If you look on Google maps you could quite easily be playing on the beach at the sea port. And no Im not trying to say they were upto no good, but maybe the missiles were aimed at the port, not just at the beach?
Even the link you provided, from the highly impartial Daily Mail I add, said they were on a beach playing.

Four children killed on a beach in Gaza. Hamas must have been using them as a human shield for their sandcastles.

You know as well as I do that these kids would have grown up to be terrorists.
The Israeli security forces were just taking pre-emptive action to keep their illegal settlers safe and sound.
That folk on here are somehow trying to mitigate these murders frankly disgusts me.

I was particularly referring to the vetos made by the US on past Un resolutions, although reading back I didn't particularly clarify the statement. I am, to a certain extent, aware of the influence of the AIPAC in the US, and I agree with everything you said regarding Israel acting of their own will.

The kids were human shields NF, it was fortunate for Hamas really that they still manage to be effective as human shields when they were larking around on the job by playing hide and seek.

Because Israel never uses human shields?

How about this justification of it

"UN human rights activists have issued yet another report condemning Israeli self-defense. This time, they dug out a case when IDF troops marched a Palestinian teen before them as a human shield.
What’s wrong with that tactic? Presumably, Hamas wouldn’t shoot at the boy, so everyone appears to be better off: the soldiers and the boy were safe. If Hamas had shot the teen, that would have been an intra-Palestinian problem.
The prohibition of human shields was developed for legitimate military operations in which both sides are legally entitled to fire at each other. Israeli reprisals against terrorists do not qualify Hamas as a legitimate combatant who is free to shoot; thus human shields are entirely legalHamas has no right to shoot at them.
Sixty years ago, the British extensively used Arabs as human shields in the same area. The UN pays no attention to Hamas’ use of human shields."

Perhaps we shouldn't expect anything better than terrorist tactics from a rogue state?

rogue state

A nation or state regarded as breaking international law and posing a threat to the security of other nations.

Israel's media strategy: What lies beneath

They're the same arguments that have been regurgitated on here by some less than enlightened posters.

On a more heartening note, the debate in Parliament a couple of days ago following the Foreign Secretary's statement on Gaza, led to a broad, cross-party consensus in criticising the disproportionate Israeli response to rocket fire:

<a class="postlink" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJWNE83j__k&feature=youtu.be" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJWNE83 ... e=youtu.be</a>

it's questions to the foreign secretary, and a video in which his answers are cut out of the video

it's the houses duty to scrutinize not stand up and agree

If bombing back and retaliating is getting know where (which I agree it's not) what are Israel's options to protect its people then?

No shit Sherlock ;)

Sorry, flippancy aside, I was just trying to express that its quite a departure from the norm to hear such a broad concensus of criticism of Israel's actions. You'd normally hear the same old voices expressing criticism but this edited video shows a broad range of Members putting their opinions on the record. I'm just hoping that its representative of a small yet significant shift in the attitude and approach of the House...... you slaaaag ;)
