Pardon , eh , what !

My dear old thing, I’m a trifle deaf. Would you mind being so kind as to repeat what you just said, old bean?
I SAID PARDON MY IGNORANCE GOOD SIR, I DO FORGET MY PLACE SOMETIMES WHEN IM TALKING TO MY BETTERS, now ill just pop back downstairs with the rest of the staff and not sully your quarters with my mere existence

For me pardon is the only acceptable one to use when asking somebody to repeat themselves
Grandson is currently of an age where he is learning new words and we pull him up for using what and correct him and his mum tuts and roll eyes at us as she think what is ok
Is it just me being a miserable old fart (49) and ‘what’ is acceptable ?
