Should have been given a chance last season instead of bloody Navas. Couldnt have done any worse.

Unfortunately Pep was in his ''Let me show you how much we need to buy players'' state of mind. He knew the players he wanted in his team and homegrown was simply nothing he wanted to consider. Many positions had inadequate players picked for PL games rather than giving our own young players chance to shine.

Our policy seems to be let others like say Monaco or PL feeder clubs do the testing then buy them. Perhaps Mr Roberts, like many of BM members, thought our academy would fast track him because of CL experience at Celtic.

Think that one (and only one) more year at Celtic will benefit both parties.
He'll probably start in most games, get a reputation as a top prospect and be worth a fair few bob. At the moment we're just looking at a small profit if we sold him on.

VvD and Wanyama both came from Celtic and Dembele and Tierney will likely follow proving that their players can bridge the gap to PL standard.
At the end of next season we can make the decision whether to stick or twist.

Yes but the guy in question wanted to play at a higher level given the opportunity, Roberts by all accounts had the chance and settled for returning to Celtic. No shame in that, but as a career move not one that is likely to end with playing at the highest level.

Will VVD play at the highest level?

I think he might, as will Ntcham after a year or two. Roberts will too. He's still a kid.

I hope we draw another English team in the CL. Give them an easy draw. See how it should be done.

We'll have no whimpering here. FFS you're Scottish, man ;-)

Honestly would you rather have seen navas start games last season or Roberts?
That's not quite the point though, Navas was a veteran player part of a squad that helped win the premier league while Roberts was an 18 year old prospect from Fulham. It was also Pep's first season so I don't imagine he was very familiar with his squad, also Roberts was on loan at Celtic at that time.

See my later reply mate its not the fact that he is playing for Celtic its the fact he had the chance to play at a higher level and turned it down. In many ways it's not the issue with Celtic its an issue that since the death of Rangers Celtic only play a handful of meaningful games a season. VVD will almost certainty play at a high level, but it took a move to Southampton for that to happen(the move Roberts it would seem turned down), when was the last time a Celtic/Rangers player moved to a top team directly?? Nitcham, I hope so but haven't seen anywhere near enough of him to give an informed view on the matter

Just met him in Piccadilly. He was pretty coy but smiled about Celtic so think I it's on.

Really, really nice guy though and down to earth. We even had a laugh about our finishing and I would've loved to see him get a chance.
