Pau Torres

Personally, I find Torres good. More importantly, I trust Pep and Txiki: if they think he's good enough for us, they are far more likely to be right than the fans who don't like him.

I remember some on here were disappointed by our interest in Dias, because he was supposed to be slow, not very good on the ball, clearly worse than Kounde, etc. Don't take your views too seriously. Calm down and trust the club. We tend to sign excellent players.

He looked a real prospect as a youngster but while he remains good on the ball, he hasn’t really seemed to have kicked on defensively and the physical side of his game especially - pace, strength and aggression - is seriously lacking.
I suspect he would be eaten alive in the PL
I think recruiting the right defenders is really difficult -it seems generally you either pay through the nose for a 28 yr old or take a punt on a youngster without enough experience and a few mistakes in them.

It looks like we are just bad in selecting defenders, that's why we have spent so much on them. Pau Torres is just ass, and am not surprised at all that Pep would want him, Pep really struggles with defenders.

'Ass'? Is this some kind of street talk? Asking for an FOC?
; )

Pep really struggles with defenders.

Walker - great signing
Dias - fantastic signing
Laporte - excellent signing
Cancelo - excellent signing
Stones - really good, would have been a fantastic signing if he could stay fit more often
Danilo - decent signing
Ake - decent
Mendy - bad

But they are very expensive! And? Why should we care? We can afford these players. Liverpool have more expensive players in several key positions: keeper, CB, CF. We have sold players for 200m this year, we can afford expensive defenders, why not?

Utter fùcking nonsense.

Since Guardiola has been here City have either the 1st/2nd best defence every season, you complete tit.

he`s not worse than Ake though is he really? I hope we are aiming higher but as we have seen in the past that causes headaches for game time.

The person reporting it seemingly has very little track record with City transfers?

For that reason alone, let's hope it is just a flyer.

City had a serious interest in Mason Holgate at Everton 18 months ago, but not sure if he has kicked on or we would go back.

Great point. Pardon my ignorance

Strange that we’ve had best defensive record & won golden glove with such bad selections. Not only that - our rivals want to buy our bad selections. So strange …

Ake isn't good enough, so why should Torres be?

We need someone coming in to push our other lads to their limits.

If someone is out there and backs himself to do that, we should pay whatever it takes.

I don't see Laporte staying beyond his existing contract at this time, but obviously that could change if he continues to start.

You have a point.

But part of our "best defensive record" is because we play high possession and we win the the ball high up the field, we don't give the ball away to often and we try and win it back as quick as we can. Still strange ?

depends on the mentality of the incoming player though mate? If they are prepared to be patient but still fight for the chance?

The price tag will not be issue, the difficult part is to convince him to join us when he see that CB position is too tough to him to able to play regulary here. He may not want to join because he doesn't want to fight to earn his spot here.

Not only him but any potential CB that join us. We may be interested looking for Ake replacement but that doesn't mean the plan will be smooth as fans think.

The exact same could have been said of Laporte in that tournament. He only looked comfortable when he had time and space.

Torres is no Dias, but neither is he the calamity some are claiming.
Fair comment, the only time I've seen him was last year and a couple of times in the champions league and he was never convincing. You think there are no better options out there for £50m or so what his release clause is?
