Paul Gascoigne

What a sad individual, won't be long before we see his passing, personally never liked the player but the people around him appear to have exploited him and what a sorry mess he is

I always anticipate this to be a RIP thread when I see his name posted

I always find it funny when people give this United and Ferguson would have put him on the straight and narrow path, as if nobody bothered to try before, like respected managers like Bobby Robson and Venables. United had a bad drinking culture in the early nighties, everyone knows what Bryan Robson, McGrath, Whiteside and Bruce were like. Do you really think he would have fared better with them, or that notorious alcoholic, Lineker? Also the attitude towards alcohol and mental health in football at that time were worlds apart from today.

EDIT: Even if thats a fake quote from Gazza, its still hilarious and true.

There are other things n’all...

United kicked the survivors and windowed families of the Munich Air Disaster out of their homes.
Louis Edwards sold condemned meat to schools.
Martin Edwards got done for following a woman into the toilets and peaking under the cubicle.
Ferguson said he’d have sorted Gazza out but couldn’t stop (as you mentioned) McGrath, Webb, Robson and later Giggs and Sharpe from being serial piss heads, he had such a lack of a grasp on Giggs and Sharpe he sold Sharpe to keep them apart and stop them going out all the time together.
Charlton was done for ticket touting.
Thomas was done for ticket touting.
Ferguson had to sell Paul Ince because there were rumours he’d shagged Kanchelskis’ wife.
Ferguson had to sell Kanchelskis because United hadn’t paid Shakhtar any of the clauses in his contract and had been bunging them to some dodgy gangster who Kanchelskis was involved with... and then failed to pass on the 30% transfer fee sell-on clause they also owed Shakhtar when they sold him.
Ferguson was involved in dodgy transfers involving his agent son.
Cantona refused to play in the Munich Memorial game unless he was paid so United paid him £90,000 out of the Munich Memorial Fund.
United fans murdered Crystal Palace fan Paul Nixon at the 1995 FA Cup semifinal.
Beckham disobeyed Ferguson’s order not to go out with Victoria and used to get about in the boots of taxis.
And the reason behind United’s hated owners, the Glazers, coming into to ownership of United was because Ferguson fell out with Magnier and MacManus over a racehorse he felt he should be earning more money from with them, M+M decided they couldn’t work with Ferguson anymore but knew they couldn’t sack him so they sold the club to the Glazers and left.

Always been a proper club with proper morals and their house properly in order, that lot.

^Yeah, the ‘Fergie would have sorted him out’ is a tired old trope. Late 80s about 2am on a Sunday morning, I saw Paul McGrath taking a piss against a building on Mosley Street.

hahaha fergie would have sorted out gazza hahahaha fuck me fergie looked after Lee Sharpe and Keith Gillespie well

I love Gazza.

Highlight is when he turned up for crunch talks with Raoul Moat with a bucket of KFC chicken and fishing rods.
Yes, much lols all round, what a brilliant bloke he was. A pathological violent bullying roidhead who went on a murderous rampage simply because his girlfriend had the sheer gall to finish with him. Great bloke though. I can see why Gascoine the wife beating drunk would want to be friends with him, after all, they are both just misunderstood and not of it is fair. They are both utter ****s.
Highlight be fucked. Cant believe I just read that, or that someone actually liked it.

The humour in this country has always been dark and a bit twisted. Nobody would have a good word for Moat or condone what he did, nor some of Gasgoine's antics. You can bet though that 90% of the country would have laughed out loud when the story broke that he was on his way to try and talk to Moat carrying a few cans of beer and a takeaway. The laughter would been one of an incredulous nature and disbelief, but people laughed at the time and continued to joke about it for some time afterwards, including professional comedians. That doesn't mean they found what Moat did amusing or Gasgoine beating up his wife. It was just a bizarre tale which was funny because it waz so bizarre.
