Paul McCartney

Saw him live in Mexico City and it was the best concert ever. aaand I am not joking. sure we were gallivanting that night, but even roger Waters comes second...

If you go to the British museum . There is a glass case.
Inside it are some original music written by Mozart.
Next to it is the paper on which Macca wrote Yesterday .
It says " Yesterday by Paul MaCartney . . added later are "and John Lennon . Strings by Mozart".
The British Museum obviously rate him alongsinde Mozart. Not a bad shout because these people come around rarely.

Im guessing that him and John will go down as legendary Brits like Shakespeare & Charles Dickens, men who gave the world something fantastic, its good because Britain never produced great composers of music, they were always European

Given your name I would have thought Elgar might have sprung to mind!

Edward was only really famous in the UK, not so much on a world wide stage, it took The Beatles to put Britain on the musical map

I'm not his biggest fan in terms of his music, but I fully agree with the OP.

If you're going to criticize the achievements of the likes of McCartney or wish him dead, then you have issues I think.

Well I have issues then, ok I thought ebony and ivory (what a pathetic deluded song that was) was wacko jacko as opposed to a sold out soul legend but come one, utter banal simplistic lyrics in every song.
I see no one has mentioned 'Give Ireland back to the Irish', a middle/upper class (millionaire) releasing a protest song, oh wow I am shocked and stirred into action. It sits alongside Phil Coilljns singing about the homeless when the bastard has an empty castle in Scotland, a mansion in the U.S. and countless other homes all empty for 11 months of the year.
If saying McCartney is a trumped up media whore who writes shite music means I have issues then so be it.
I am sorry but the the old joke remains good today, what do you call a dog with wings? Answer Linda McCartney.

Oh and Cliff Richard and Lulu were/are shite as well.

You and the other poster who quoted me are completely missing my point. If you read my post you'll see that I said "The achievements". You don't have to like someone as a person to respect their work. It's fair enough you not liking someone because of their persona, or their politics, or whatever, but for what he has achieved in terms of his music, then he is pretty much out there on his own, and that statement is backed up by the millions upon millions of people who have bought his music, as well as the music industry itself, so they all can't be wrong. What you said and what I said are two different things. You're quite entitled to hate both the man and his music as we all have our opinions. There are no issues there at all. Indeed I might even think the same. But to somehow think that all the record sales and awards he's achieved are not to be respected shows a narrow mindedness of extreme proportions.

I was no fan of the Frog Chorus but I'm a little surprised that people would actually like him to die. Seems a tad harsh to say the least.
