I'd be quite happy with Stones if I thought he was going to have a physically imposing partner (and leader) like Vinny alongside him. Stones paired with either Mangala or Otamendi however, is a recipe for utter fucking disaster. If we're buying Stones then and we can't rely on VK to be fit, then we really need to buy an animal to partner him (NB - Denayer isn't remotely good enough). This is part of my beef though - we're buying nothing but silk drawers, without having a good old fashioned pair of Y fronts in place to provide balance

I know you are desperate for Ryan Shawcross.

If he ends up there then it would be interesting to know the details, as it stands it seems that other than the Rags there is very little interest in him.

You would have thought that Us, Chelsea, Madrid, Barca, Bayern etc.. would have all been balls deep for him, if not all of them then certainly a couple.

If it comes down to wages alone i would be amazed as, for him to choose united after leaving them under a cloud a few years ago and dropping out of the CL seems very odd.

I get the feeling that they are just going through a shit or bust stage where they are going to throw everything together regardless of the cost.

Where have these Pogba to the Rags rumours come from? You'll be telling me Ronaldo is on his way back next.

Or maybe Robert Huth or Wes Morgan, you know that pair of dirty old fashioned centre halves who won the league by 10 points?
My guess is that Guardiola is probably the only manager on the planet who will have watched Stones doing Cruyff turns in his own six yard area and thought that was a positive thing. The way we're going to be playing under Pep technically strong centre backs are a must.

Be amazed if they are as effective in the champions league though, but we shall see...

I'm not advocating that style of play, as my old chum OB1 would have you believe, merely venturing that it would be a good idea to have such a player at the club as an option, should circumstances dictate that we need a bit of resilience and/or brutality. John Stones will need guiding

Rags getting very giddy about signing him after signing their second player through raiola and pogba's dads comments about wanting to play in a better league. Hope to fuck it doesn't happen

He will, agreed

I'll be pissed as I have money on him coming to us but I will piss myself if they get bent over for him

The GPC called the lad's bluff re a pay rise and fucked it up spectacularly!!! As they already had him for buttons

His dad didn't say which league though. Little surprises me in football, but I just get the feeling that the whole Pogba situation is about Real. If a deal can't be found with them and a ridiculous offer comes in from ManUre, he'll reluctantly take it but it's obvious to me that they're delaying everything whilst Real make their intentions known.

It's a case of who blinks first and ManUre are stood there waiting to get stuck in balls deep into Real's sloppy seconds.

The annoying thing is that the media will play this as a huge PR win for United and that Pogba snubbed City for them after we chased him for 2 years.

If it happens that will be miles from the truth but how it will get promoted and Mourinho will think he has won round one of what he is sure to perceive as a personal battle with Pep.

Hopefully we will respond where it matters - on the pitch with team spirit and not PR signings.

But it is likely all the 'experts' will rate Pogba to United as the signing that will define the Summer and install them as title favourites.

We have to trust that Pep knows what he is doing and that how he shapes his team on the field is what really matters regardless of 'big signings'.

One player can make great copy and supporter bragging statements. But it is no match for a great manager forming a proper team.

Plus it has not happened yet.

Playing out perfectly then. Maureen playing mind games and united chasing the headlines. Let's let Pep do his job. We are playing a longer game - United are just fending off the inevitable, the signing of Zlatan tells you all you need to know.

I'm sorry chaps, but you really need to stop flapping. Paul Pogba chooses the club and lets be honest... If he has a choice between Manchester United in the Europa league and Real Madrid who are the winners of the champions league, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see which side he is going to pick.

Pogba, his agent and his father are clearly using Man Utd as a bargaining tool so Real Madrid stump up the cash and pay big money for him. We have seen the same thing happen to Utd time and time again and this one will be no different.

With Zlatan, it's different because he's 34 years old, with Pogba he has the world at his feet and can basically pick which club he wants to play for, why would he honestly choose Manchester United who dont even have continiuty or stability at this moment in time over a club who are challenging for major honours every season playing in a better league, are a bigger club and in a better stadium. Just doesn't make any sense. The only reason he would go to United is if Madrid drop their interest and Utd pay him and his agent an absolutely astronomical amount of money... And we are talking a figure that has never been topped before.

Poor squad building is at fault.

We could have got Pogba this summer, even at the crazy price being touted, if we hadn't left Pep with so many positions to upgrade.

Apologies if someone has explained this, but from what I've heard Pogba's wage demands are WAY outside of our club's structure. No amount of squad building or lack thereof would change that. He's just asking for an amount of money that would completely fuck up what we currently pay the rest of our squad. We'd have to readdress our entire first team roster and future negotiations, or we'd have to deal with some serious morale fall-out from the entire dressing room. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's not the £80m-100m that was the problem. We could afford that. It's the £300k+/week wage demands that would have destabilized everything we've worked toward, and in no way would've been worth it.
