Paul Pogba

Our rivals got better today, price tag irrelevant
This is my assessment too.

The most frustrating thing about this whole sorry episode is that we could have had Pogba last summer for considerably less than £89m, but Txiki did what Txiki does and acted too late in the window for him to even consider moving to us.

He's the sort of midfield player we've lacked since Toure's world class 13/14 season. He's a player who can grab a game by the scruff of the neck and break it apart, either with a fantastic goal or a blinding moment of vision (think back to this goal). We have a good squad and arguably the best manager on the planet - if we can get Hart, Kompany, Gundogan, Fernandinho, Silva, De Bruyne and Aguero fit and firing then I can't imagine we'll look too regretfully over at Old Trafford while Pogba goes from strength to strength - but this is a serious missed opportunity that we should have taken.

United were never going to be gone for long - all this "tick tock", Save Our Dave stuff was premature - because they're a huge business and huge businesses stretch themselves constantly to remain on top, but they've come back earlier than expected and this signing is a huge statement of intent. If they use him properly, which I'm not entirely sure on, he will be the man who rebuilds their new era. When we announced Guardiola, United were hurting and they've responded by getting Mourinho, Pogba and Mkhitaryan before the start of the new season. It's the sort of ruthlessness I believe we lack in the market at the moment (we're haggling over a few bob for Stones, struggling to get rid of the deadwood) and it could cost us in the near future.

I suppose the wider issues are a discussion for another time, but the harsh truth is that Pogba could have and should have been a City player last season. He's not, and now he plays for our greatest rivals. The fault for this lies at the door of Txiki Begiristain, so he's going to have to work some serious magic to make sure the consequences aren't too damaging.

I don't believe this to be correct.
Compensation is paid the the training club on every transfer until the end of the season of the player's 23rd birthday. That season has just gone, and compensation is no longer due.

Even if it were due, the training costs are not a percentage of a transfer fee, they are are based on the costs that would have been incurred by the new club had they trained the player themselves. But again, it's null and void because we have passed the end of the season in which his 23rd birthday occurred.

United aren't paying 127m for the transfer. £90m is plenty enough - plus his wages (which may well be comparable with or better than Rooney). Who knows that's other addons they have too. It's still a whopping sum of money and will break the world record for a player that's not really set the world alight in the way that say Maradona, or even Ronaldo did.

I'm not sure that is totally accurate. My understanding is that the compensation at the agreed percentage, can be levied on the profit of the next sale.

Why you are talking about being 23 as the guide for compensation? I'm referring to the guidelines that are for players under 24?

We've fucked up so bad. With all this talk of prem clubs having insane amount of money why aren't we throwing around £100million bids? We could try throw that for griezman or Bale or even kroos. An attack of Ibra Pogba Mikhitaryan and Martial is frightening. We've got so many past it players it's a joke.

In deciding on a compensation figure, it is not uncommon for the PFCC to set fees that build as the player becomes more established at first team level. It has now become quite usual for clubs to receive a basic compensation fee with further payments becoming due on the player’s debut, following a certain numbers of first-team appearances and after international appearances. It is also usual for there to be a sell-on fee should the player be sold at a profit at any point in the future.

I am talking about the FIFA regulations for young players who leave the club they trained at - which applies until they are 23 (i.e. under 24), but the fine print states it applies until the end of the season in which their 23rd birthday occurs.

What 'agreed percentage' are you talking about? and the agreement between whom?
If a player played for Club A, moves to Club B, then to Club C, then Club D, Clubs C & D are not going to be paying a percentage of their profit to Club A based on any agreement they made with club B. They'll only pay statutory compensation (per FIFA rules) to the training club/s and that is NOT a percentage fee.

The PFCC isn't for European transfers it's for English ones only and comes into being when a player leaves at the end of his contract and is under 24. So they'll set an appropriate fee that might include addons etc.
It doesn't apply to Pogba, he wasn't sold between two English clubs.
The PFCC also only comes into play if both clubs can't agree - it's an arbitrator (although it's final judgment is binding). It doesn't rule on every case, only ones where there's a dispute.

Thank fuck this transfer is done, we would have been slaughtered for paying this amount, never wanted him at city each time I've seen him he's never convinced me. I believe pep didn't want him and that's good enough for me.

Well, the agreed percentage as part of the contract negotiations.

I'll have to research it, but in the back of my mind there was a major transfer that ended up with, I think, something like Tranmere or Fleetwood getting about £5k because of that type of deal.

OK, a simple question for you. Rather than go round in circles. Do you believe that when Pogba left the scum, there was no sell-on clause?
