Why is it so hard for you to get your head round a fact that not everyone agrees with your opinion of him.
He's a very good player, at best. But great, far from it. My opinion. Not kidding myself, either.

I have not trouble in accepting other peoples opinions...what i was talking about was that when it was being said that we were def in for him (last summer and this summer) virtually everyone was saying he was the best thing since sliced bread or would be...now some are saying he is not..opinions on here have drastically changed about him purely cause we are not in for him/utd might get him.....

I understand why we won't get him down to the finances etc but its just funny to me the way people change their opinions depending whether we have a chance of getting a player or not and whether he could possibly go to a rival or not.

Was it Raiola who got £12m from De Gea's contract extension? If so he is milking United like the cow they are.
No, Mendes is the agent of De Gea. Say what you want about Raiola but the players he represents regard him highly.

Spoke about it several pages back, but it's not a case of people changing their minds. You'd be hard-pressed to go through and find more than a handful who have. It's a case of one population speaking up when things look favorable (while the other population remains quiet), followed by the exact opposite when fortunes change. Of course the "Aye's" have more to say when the transfer is on. And likewise of course the "Nay's" have more to offer when it looks off.

fair enough..i agree it could be that.

But i think there are some are just trying to paint everything as rosey if utd were to get him....numerous on here i reckon wouldn't want to acknowledge that they have got a player that we have been after for two years and clearly was at one point a priority target. He was a priority target cause he is a top top player

Just my opinion and it may not pan out this way, but he's a replica of Yaya only 4 yrs younger than the Yaya we signed in 2010

So whoever gets him is gonna get what we've had from Toure but for 4 years longer

I haven't read as much of that as you have, although to be fair I've done some skimming. Most of it to me reads as:

A) Signing Pogba does not mean they're going to win the title (which seems true).
B) It's funny that they're going to spend £100m + £20m agents fees + £250/week wages on a player they let go for free (which is true).
C) He isn't the best central midfielder in the world yet (which is true).
D) He's great, but not worth the financial outlay (which is divisive, but true to a great deal of us, and always was).

All of that seems tempered with the begrudging admission that they're getting a world class player if they pull it off. Which unfortunately is also true.

I agree mate...I actually stopped thinking we were going to sign Pogba a while ago but there is still apart of me that felt that signing him would make a strong "statement" to the rest of football...I think Pogba might stay at Juve but it would be tough to see him go to the rags...With Pep coming, I was expecting players to fall over themselves to want to join us and if I'm honest, got overly confident about the transfer window...Pep is a world class manager and one of the best in football but "as of today" this team is still made up of the same slow/aging/injury risk squad that finished the season....even with Pep there needs to be a turnover of players....and I dont mean squad players.....we need to be signing starting 11 type players.....first pre-season game just over 10 days away and we not even close to having a set squad....fingers crossed things will start falling into place in the next week...

Doesn't the idea of signing Coman or Kimmich and creating world-class players excite you more than signing Sanchez or Pogba, though? The former is so much more rewarding for me. That's the real "fuck you."

I agree with that but our squad is ageing and does need a major overhaul and if we are to do that with young players we may not win anything for a while...even with pep.

buying all potential with one experienced player (nolito) is risky. Id prefer a more even mix

Gudongan is the only standout player for me at the moment

Hopefully Sane will prove to be

I agree completely mate but the problem is we've allowed a number of positions to get old and slow without developing those positions and having players to step in and take over...so we go from old/slow to unproven/young/inexperienced and nothing in between...add a new manager/system to the mix and you've now got players that dont fit the system as well....for Pep's system to truly work we need to do alot more business this window in my opinion...

I disagree with this entirely. They're nothing alike. Yaya controls the game, Pogba doesn't. Yaya scores goals, Pogba hasn't managed more than eight a season.

Pogba is a huge talent, but he's nothing like Yaya, and I doubt he ever will be.

I think there's an urgency to refit an aging squad in the next three years, but what exactly is your age emergency? Yaya? I hope Gundogan was brought in to replace him. Silva's 30, which isn't old for a player of his ilk, but I'm with you -- hopefully De Bruyne steps into his shoes as Dave steps out. What are the other spots? Sagna had one of the seasons of his life, but I'm hopeful on Peres. Vinny is 30, which would be fine if he could stay fit. Hopefully Stones is coming in to take the baton (or someone else, if you prefer). Aguero is 28. The only one of those that really worries me is Fernandinho at 31, who I think has another year or two -- ideally someone like Jack Byrne or Aleix Garcia have a brilliant leap forward in their progress, but otherwise we owe another CM this summer or next. So it goes.

The squad is on the wrong side of the ideal age profile, but it's not exactly a disaster from where I'm seated.

Any alternatives if kroos can't happen?

Busquets(remember his comments re pep),Thiago, Weigl, Kante, Niguez, Neves, Calhanoglu(maybe best set piece man on the planet)and at a push perhaps someone a touch younger like kovacic, even youri tielemens.

I honestly think if pep can't get exactly what he needs in the market right now, there will be no panic signing like UTD, rather he will accept a potentially mediocre season and line up youngsters to learn his system for the seasons going forward. Its a difficult situation not only for city, but for a lot of english clubs right now. Bringing in the best to the premier league isn't easy for some reason...god knows why. Money, excitement, competitiveness, pressure...maybe the last thing is a sticking point.

One difficulty for pep is his system is utterly reliant on having sharp talent in the middle. Will be interesting to see what he develops if gundo is the only CM of note that city bring in.

Don't think they're replicas.

Yaya = better in possession, more intelligent and better close control/technique.

Pogba is more into his tricks, whether that's a plus depends on your view of football
