Pay to listen to Corbyn speak

Has it not occurred to anyone in here that at a fund raising event like this the price reduction is a means of encouraging black and ethnic minorities to attend as they are under represented in all the main political parties?

Quoted in the article a Labour spokesman said: ‘The basic price of a conference pass is the same for all members but, at the request of our East Midlands Regional Board, the party will subsidise part of the cost of this year’s conference pass for BAME members to encourage attendance and improve representation.’

Is the above not more plausible than....

Conservative vice-chairman James Cleverly said: ‘Discriminating against people based on the colour of their skin is totally wrong and Mr Corbyn must end this practice now.’

Leicestershire Conservative MP Andrew Bridgen added: ‘This is racism. In effect, Labour is levying a tax on the basis of the colour of a person’s skin. It shows their contempt for the white working class.’

Has it occurred to you that differentiating between two groups based upon the colour of their skin is a fuck off backwards step that only divides people further?

So that's ok then. They subsidise BAME members to get the numbers in.

I have a suggestion. Lower the price for everyone. That way ALL grass route members can pop along. To suggest a tenner less would incourage more BAME is ridiculous. A tenner less would incourage more everyone.

Hare brained at best.

The one caveat has to be its in the Mail........... any other papers run with it? Possibly not as black and white ( genuinely no pun intended ) as they report.

I did think that right away but they’ve admitted it.

And the Tories have jumped on it quicker than you can say racism.

Don't we have a general politics thread for this??

I get sent invites to local and north west labour events on a regular basis prices are different every time as they are set by the local party hosting.
Corbyn and labour HQ will have nowt to do with this.
At a local level someone has decided subsidising the Bame community may encourage a bigger turnout is it right to do this? a form of what's termed positive action, well only the local reaction will tell.

Funny only breibart and the mail are reporting it, as it's local news worthy at best.

like I say I get invites to these dinners and conferences all the time ranging from £10 to £60 a ticket, I don't bother, as I pay my dues and cannot think of a more duller evening, only devoted activist bother.

Are you telling me Corbyn just gets delivered at the point of it starting and whisked away at the close without any detail about the backgrounds of people attending and details such as ticket prices?

If they’re not giving him that information before he arrives or if that he is ignorant of it, then god help us if these lot ever form a government.

Yeah but RW posters would be worried people wouldn't see it so it gets its own thread lol - presumably the aren't Mail nor Breitbart readers? Or maybe they think its not news too?

Jesus mate if you want to trade party leaders whisked into a place with no idea whats going on then rushed out again with no contact with the audience nor the people I'd suggest you look at the Tories last campaign. May and supporters bussed into out of town locations speaking only to a few supporters waving placards then rushed out again - and that was her bidding to increase her majority as PM not speak in a meeting to activists
