Peaky Blinders

I’ve kept watching up until half way through the final series. It ran out of steam badly.

I’d realised that I was only watching for the buildings they’d used as locations that I recognised!

I’m a big fan of the Peaky Blinders but I reckon two of the series haven’t been great due the writer getting carried away with himself.

The best seasons of the Peaky Blinders have been those heavily influenced by tales the writer Steven Knight was told (eg by grandparents) when growing up in Birmingham. The season about the Russians and this final one have been very mediocre.

Not seen the new series and from what folk on here are saying I might give it a miss. Always a shame when a great TV drama goes on too long and fizzles out or becomes a bit rubbish. Most do.

The writing is really poor. They can come up with a major story arc for the season, which can be quite good, but episode to episode things are really poor before it all comes together very late on.

Particularly in the later series the whole thing is just a series of musical montages interrupted with the same arguments the main characters have been having for 5 years. How many scenes can revolve around Tommy not speaking to Lizzie? How many angry marches into the countryside can you shoot?

They ran out of stories for Arthur a long time ago, I think id be embarrassed as the actor just popping up in one scene an episode for 3 seasons just to show everyone you’re still drunk or high and still incapable of doing anything.

They’ve been given 6 seasons to develop a huge world of characters but haven’t been able to come up with a simple B plot with those characters to complement the main story.

This last series is now picking up a bit in my opinion. I guess any finale (the last episode soon) has to have the foundations laid, and Tommy's "demons" are really the only way they could go. I think it's good that it has done that.
Having said that, I think the Gina character is bloody awful and is just a portrayal of cliche ridden shite. Should have binned it. I also thought they did the same with Polly's character.
Ada and Lizzie's characters are a little better, but not much.
For what it's worth I think Tommy will find "redemption" (but in a way that is ambiguous) and the next generation will feature in the film version. They are already starting with Ada's son, Tommy's son Charles and now the other one that we glimpsed last week.

One of my favourite series but yeah this season is a bit meh

It is a bit heavy going but still worth persevering.
I agree. It's gone very "dark" and the usual "beat them up, twat them, we are the peaky blinders and we win everything" went two series ago imho.
Yet isn't that how life often is?
Quite like how this series is building to be honest, just hope the finale is as good as any other finale. And more ;-)
Think the last series pissed me off a bit by using the Oswald Mosley character (because anyone who knows their history knew how that finale would pan out), yet I suppose it was "necessary" to do so, considering where this series is going.
