Pele isn't even top 20 for me in the greatest players of all time list. 500 + goals in friendlies and tour matches and he adds it to his career scoring record. Smacks of desperation that. Add to the fact he played against poor players of the 50's, 60's and 70's. Back when players went to the match from the bar and had poor nutrition and training methods.

Oh did i mention he played in the regional league in Brasil and racked his goals up. Brasil didn't even have a national league when Pele was around.

I would say players like the Ronaldo's, Ronaldinho, Maradonna, Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Eto'o, Henry, Zidane, Cruff, Rivaldo, Baggio, Del Piero, Villa, Maldini are all better. Probably more tbh.

How many of his goals were friendlys etc?
I think its strange how he includes every goal hes ever scored and harps on about it as if all of those goals were in professional competition matches, but I am way after his time and havnt seen him play.

I 'm sure some that have posted on this thread are too young to know how good Pele was .
On the greatest stage of all (the FIFA World Cup)he is the only player to win 3 medals.Watch him on youtube in the 1970 World Cup, he and the whole Brazilian team are by far the best team/player that ever graced the "beautiful game ".
Rivelino,Tostao,Carlos Alberto,Jarziniho,Gerson are the best football team ever.
Not only winners of the last( and holders in perptuity)of the Jules Rimet trophy, but also the best football team ever.

10) China 2002

Pele Prediction: China will qualify for the next round from their 2002 World Cup group.

Outcome: China finish bottom of Group C with no wins, no draws, no points, no goals, as well as -9 in their goal-difference column.

9) Spain 1998

Pele Prediction: Spain are favourites for the 1998 World Cup in France.

Outcome: Spain humiliatingly dumped out in the first round after losing to Nigeria, and drawing with Paraguay.

8) Colombia To Live American Dream

Pele Prediction: Colombia will win the 1994 World Cup in the USA.

Outcome: Colombia exit the competition in the first round, finishing bottom of their group. Their defender Andres Escobar is also tragically shot dead by an angry fan after Colombia return home.

7) Argentina, France & World Cup 2002

Pele Prediction: Argentina & France will both reach the final.

Outcome: Both countries eliminated in the first round, France without even scoring a goal.

6) Escape To Victory

Pele Prediction: During the famous film starring Sylvester Stallone and Michael Caine, Allies star Pele is brutally fouled in the first half by the Nazi opponents. The injured Brazilian claims there is no way he can continue and is carried off. The Allies are 4-0 down, and a recovery is deemed impossible.

Pele Prediction: An African nation will win the World Cup before the year 2000.

Outcome: It is now 2010, and an African country has still yet to get past the quarter-final.

1) Brazil & World Cup 2002

Pele Prediction: Brazil won’t even get past the group stages.

Outcome: Brazil win the World Cup.
