Does the idiot who wrote the mail article not know that just like every club, we have to have a quota of homegrown players anyway ?

Other than that, I wouldn't blame Pellegrini for not signing any english players, as I don't see any that are good enough to play at the very top level, other than those we already have.

If, as seems likely, Cavani can't be got for sensible money, then we should stick with the current strikers Aguero, Tevez and Dzeko and see what Pellegrini can coach out of them. He has a reputation for getting the best from what he has to work with and that threesome are, potentially, a formidable force.

I'm pleased to see these reports come out yesterday evening

Manuel Pellegrini includes Carlos Tévez in his plans for Manchester City
Edin Dzeko staying at Manchester City as new boss Manuel Pellegrini assesses striker options

I'd be more than happy to see the same strikers here next season with Jesus Navas and Angel Di Maria putting crosses in from the wings. For me, the question is over who would be a suitable fourth striker and there I would favour a young talent, home-grown or bought cheaply, and destined for future stardom.

I am sure that there was a post, may have been in this thread, which was translated from Arabic and said that MP wanted both Edin and Carlos to stay, can anyone else remember it/find it?

I wouldnt complain tbh if Tevez and Dzeko stayed..
The post in Arabic was here http://forums.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=285008&p=6840706#p6840706 and is given below

First of all , sorry for my English .. it's not very well

but Mohamed Naguib the manager of Abu Dhabi sports t.v network just twitted some details about the negotiations which take place between Pelle & the club

1# Pelle insists to keep Dzeko & Nasry and asked for
two wingers , central defender , central midfielder and a goal scorer

2# the players who would leave : Tevez if he didn't renew , kolo , Lesscot & some other players not revealed yet

3# pelle didn't like to bring Falcao

4# Their was a huge bid from Mourinho for Dzeko

and the twitter account name is @mohammednajeeb5 & BTW has more than 170 thousand followers

& that's the link of the his account :

but of course the tweets were in Arabic :)
I think this tells us everything we need to know! Just fill in the blanks (confirmed transfers and done-deals in bold):

two wingers - Jesus Navas, Angel di Maria? (Imagine a Jesus and an Angel on the wings! We atheists would never be able to live it down!)
central defender - Diego Novaretti
central midfielder - Fernandinho, Thiago Alcantara?, Isco?
goal scorer - ?

I hope there is a free-kick expert or two amongst that lot!

Maybe Tevez would be the goal scorer if he stays. Or maybe Pellegrini additionally wants someone who's a natural goal-scoring machine.

Angel Di Maria

Thiago Alcantara - Seems to be a Man Utd and Real Madrid transfer target as well.
VIDEO: Manchester United target Thiago Alcantara assists Spain winner

Manchester United transfer target Thiago Alcantara showed just why he is so coveted.

Barcelona's Thiago Alcantara is widely reported to be available for just €18 million this summer due to a clause in his contract.

Manchester United are said to be interested in activating it, and will certainly have taken note of his performance this evening for Spain's under-21 side.

He lined up alongside David de Gea in the team for their opening game against Russia, and played a key role in their opener.

In a dominant performance in which he completed 93 per cent of his passes, one of them was clocked up when he took the free-kick for Spain's winner.

The goal came late on in the 82nd minute, headed home by Real Madrid's Alvaro Morata to land Spain a 1-0 victory.

Isco - Certainly wants to move to City with Pellegrini but Pellegrini himself may not be so keen on him?
VIDEO: Isco proves why he's worth £17 million

Manchester City transfer target Isco produced some superb examples of skill in Spain’s Under-21 game against Russia.

Reports suggest Manchester City will come up with £17 million for Isco when Manuel Pellegrini is confirmed as the club’s new manager, possibly early next week.

Some have said that’s a gamble and too much money to risk on a 21-year-old who has little experience in top flight football, let alone the conditions he will face in the Premier League.

However, he produced three remarkable pieces of skill for Spain in their 1-0 win over Russia in their opening match of the Under-21 European Championship, which prove exactly why he’s worth such a large amount of money.

The first bit of skill is a remarkable flick of the foot, which sees the ball stick to his foot like glue.

It’s a skill that was first introduced by Brazilian legend Ronaldinho and something which is very difficult to defend against.

The second bit of skill sees him sandwiched between two Russian defenders before a quick drag of the ball and a flick to take them both out of the game, creating some space to lay off a pass.

The third, and possibly best, bit of skill sees him nutmeg a defender innocently pressing him.

All the poor old Russian lad is doing is trying to put a bit of pressure on the ball but Isco nutmegs and changes direction in a second. Remarkable.

Take a look at his insane skills.

It's rather like a Catch 22 isn't it? We have (allegedly) no good English players because they are not getting experience in the Premier League but they can't get into the PL anyway so how are they expected to get experience in the PL if no one gives them a chance.

BUT, what about players like Tom Ince and Callum Macmanaman? They are good English players and should be snapped up surely? IMHO

Watching Ince for the U-21s yesterday he didn't exactly shine as an outstanding prospect. Liverpool had him on their books for a few years as a kid but eventually let him go.

Young English players with good technique will still find their way through - Wilshere and Oxlade-Chamberlain for example. There just aren't enough to go around.

If he can get the best out of Santa Cruz then surely he can help to make Edin something special.

Nothing to do with being injury free then?

RSC is/was a very good player, only his body prevented him being great, unfortunately we signed him when he went through one of his worst patches.
I believe in an attempt to prove himself,he tried to play through his injuries, only to make things worse, and obviously we witnessed the outcome.......

A fit RSC would have been an excellent acquisition and would have saved us a fortune in transfers/wages.

He was unlucky not untalented.

Not so much a criticism of Santa Cruz - I rate Dzeko higher though.
