I would read the whole interview including the questions. It was most def a requirement and sorriano went further by saying we can have a fruitless campaign one year as long as the trophy count is made up in another. I would read his quotes again if i was you regarding the LC as it 100% does not count towards the five trophy target set.

Will you be looking to improve in Europe next season under the new manager and have greater confidence and conviction in the Champions League?
"I think that next season is going to be much better, I am convinced about that. It doesn't mean we are going to win one or two titles, but in the grand scheme of things, if we look at the next five years and I could plan now, I would say I want to win five trophies in the next five years. That may mean we win no trophies one year and two in another, but on average, I want one trophy or title a year."
Does the Champions League come into that?
"That is the Champions League, the Premier League or the Cup."
Is that a realistic aim?
"I think it is, yes. But I am talking about five years. If next year we don't win, but progress our football and get to the semi-finals of the Champions League, finish second in the Premier League and lose the FA Cup final again, that will be fine. That is because we will have progressed in the way our football develops."
Will the new manager be set the same targets as Mancini?
"Roberto wasn't set targets about winning titles, I can assure you. The target was to improve in the way we play football, so the target for the next manager will be exactly the same. We have a fantastic squad and we will ask him to use this squad to deliver good football and, if he does that, we will win and we will support him."
Hope I haven't quoted too much mods, but it sounds more than an off the cuff aspiration to me than a target and he says the cup, a Spanish speaker could just as easily said a cup.
