When players are trying to make the step up the ONLY way to see if they can do it is to throw them in at the deep end and see if they can swim. Before you do that, however, you have to have nurtured them in the WAY YOU PLAY AT SENIOR LEVEL, which is why there has been so much emphasis placed on this concept by Pellegrini and Txiki, and why Vieira has been put in charge of the EDS.
As this season develops, Pellegrini will KNOW who has the ability to play a fast, attacking, high tempo passing game and who isn't. THAT will determine who moves up to the first team bench. From there, it will the SCORE or an injury that will determine who and when gets their chance in games that really matter (Premier League, Champs League).
One thing that Ferguson did so well for decades, and Rodgers did so well last season, albeit with mixed final results, is to put a guy in the team and trust him. It takes a brave man to put a guy in and stick with him. Is Pellegrini that guy, or will it be "one chance and out" because of the pressure to win everything?
