Pellers press conference

It is rather embarrassing that the press deal with the situation like this. I have explained to a lot of none City fans how many City fans feel there is an agenda. United fans will laugh it off but it does certainly exist. How Moyes has been claimed to be the natural successor to baconface and has been given a lot of praise for his handling of the Rooney situation and hiring of coaches like Neville and Giggs etc and then Pellegrini is just thrown into the negative light that has always surrounded the club. Why they need to still bring up Mancini, and even Hughes is ridiculous but I already am a massive admirer of Pellegrini. He is clearly very intelligent and he makes his point clearly and concisely, I knocked the rags out at the group stage with Villareal, I took Malaga to the quarters and Villareal to the semi's which is an incredible performance. I got 96 points, a record then, but not quite enough against Guardiola's Barca side. All of these comments are brilliant, he has so much confidence and faith in his ability and rightly so. Rather than talk the rags up he claims the gap is already levelled and we will beat them.

Moyes has bottled every big game Everton ever played, they never accomplished anything. They had a quality first team that never managed to achieve anything other than a decent league position. Their only experience of Europe was poor, losing against sides they should beat. Whilst he had supposed loyalty to Everton he was clearly looking at taking over from bacon for a considerable amount of time.

Chelsea do not get so much negative press anymore despite constant sackings etc. City are the targeted but I think Pellegrini will see us rise above it. He has impressed most players and indeed the Spanish press with the way he conducts himself. He is not boastful or controversial like Mourinho and is a cool head. I have a lot of faith that he is going to do a great job at City, and he will be given the time to do so despite what the papers say.

Cant believe no-one has asked him what his preferred formation will be for the season...4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2. If I was Edin, I know I'd like to know!!
The correct is answer is 4-3-3, which everybody already knows, so nobody asked.
I would say it's likely not to be, since Pellegrini has used 4222 and predominantly 4231 throughout his time in Europe.
I'm pretty sure it's not his decision anymore. Soriano and Txiki are trying to create a new Barcelona with a formation running from the first team to the youngest academy players.

We want to play good football, beautiful football in the sense of ball possession and managing the concepts of football which can give you a good show. The basic formation is 4-3-3 because that is the one which allows you to teach the kids how to play this kind of football.

You really think Soriano is going to tell Pellegrini what formation to play?

We will play 442 and 4231 if I know Pellegrini.

Yes, I do. It's part of the holistic vision of the club and I'm pretty sure Pellegrini will have been made fully aware before he put pen to paper.

-- Thu Jul 11, 2013 9:07 am --

You didn't give the full quote:

The basic formation is 4-3-3 because that is the one which allows you to teach the kids how to play this kind of football.

“When it goes to the first team, the manager can make as many changes as he wants but normally what shouldn't happen is that he will make radical changes, will start to develop a kind of football involving lots of long balls etc. We are not telling the manager how to do his job, we are just providing for the manager of the first team to fill the young ranks with technically skilled players who are talented enough to play this kind of football. He can do that as he wants."

We'll see, but I think predominantly we will be playing 4-3-3 variations depending on the opposition. If you want to know how we're setting up, look at Barcelona, and that is what they do, in fact, they don't even change much tactically, they just count on themselves being good enough to outplay the opposition. They're trying to make us the new Barcelona, literally cloning them.
