Penalties - Fail to prepare, prepare to fail

If we want to win trophies we need to have better preparation for winning on penalties. The performance last night was embarrassing in the shootout.
Mignolet seemed to be studying pre-prepared notes indicating where are players were most likely to shoot. We were complaining about the end it was to be taken at.
Ideally we should have the most recent input from opposition's penalty practice for our goalies to study. When Moyes' rags went out of the cup to Sunderland they gave one of the worst team performances in a shoot out but VDG got them to score 5 from 5 in the recent shoot out with Roma.

Winning trophies gives prestige plus more fans and income. Please lets see better preparation for penalties in future.

Has there been one since? To be honest, it was an abysmal penalty.

And at least we learned David Silva should never take a penalty.

Liverpool had more of their first 11 than we did last night, we put in a great performance considering who we had missing. In an actual penalty shootout I think we would be a bit better. Yaya's was completely half arsed. How many of that team last night will play in major games? When have we struggled in penalty shootouts in recent years? Kolarov and Yaya generally score, Aguero and Nasri are good penalty takers. I think we will be fine. No need to worry just yet.

We have had relatively few penalty shootouts in the past. That tournament was internationally pretty high profile for a "friendly" competition. It would have given a big boost to start the season with winning it. (I'm sure our owners were pretty disappointed, although Yaya didnt seem too upset!)

No flapping just a desire to improve and fulfill our potential.

It is very frustrating to see greater preparation from our opponents. Hopefully there will be considerably better penalty displays in the future, perhaps in the Charity Shield or CL knockout stages?
