Penalty Taker

Who should take penalties if Haaland is not on the pitch?

Unfortunately it seems Pep just lets the players choose. Choose their captain, choose their penalty taker, etc etc. one of the few things that I don’t like. I’d like them to be told in no uncertain terms; you’re first, if he’s not on the pitch, you’re next… etc
Agreed. Pep has to impose his authority. "Riyad, you're a sound lad. And I love you to bits. But you're not taking any more penalties as long as I've a hole in my arse"

Looking at those missed penalties, it’s an awful watch but you’ll see those on target where the goalkeeper has guessed correctly and saved them, they’re all at a saveable height. Mahrez’s in particular, if he hit them low, the goalkeeper would have no chance because he hits the ball hard enough.

Sergio Gómez: 6 taken, 6 scored, 0 missed, 100%
Erling Haaland
: 30 taken, 28 scored, 2 missed, 93.3%
Ilkay Gündogan
: 17 taken, 15 scored, 2 missed, 88.2%
Kevin de Bruyne
: 11 taken, 9 scored, 2 missed, 81.8%
Julián Álvarez
: 4 taken, 3 scored, 1 missed, 75%
Riyad Mahrez
: 32 taken, 22 scored, 10 missed, 68.8%

Riyad Mahrez: 10 misses out of 32.
Gómez, Haaland, Gündogan, de Bruyne, Álvarez combined: 7 misses out of 68.

Mahrez should be nowhere near the spot again. Gomez, Haaland and Gündo would be the only players I'd be confident in. KDB, Ederson or Álvarez at a push.

Not read the whole thread, but has anyone mentioned that a sniper be employed to take out FFS if he ever picks up a football and wibbles towards the penalty spot.

He's been shit for a while now, can you ever seem him turning a game around like Kev or Phil? Never, hope we sell him in January.

When you say a while?

He was top scorer last season and without checking has probably played about half a dozen times this year.

In the PL he bagged only 11 goals. He's a flat track bully who pads his stats with goals against Norwich, Leicester and Brighton. Or in the CL against tier 4 teams or the FA Cup against 3rd round poor teams.

If we were 1-0 down against a top team and down to one last Sub, would you bring him on? He would do nothing. I still have a damaged shin from when he skied over the bar against the Dippers last season.

A flat track bully who has scored 4 champions league semi-final goals.
More than anyone else in the clubs history.
3 derby goals. Key goals vs Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal, Brighton (final day), Dortmund (CL QF) as well as other teams during title run ins like Southampton, Wolves, Bournemouth and Brighton (again).

It’s fine to say he’s been shite this season or that he’s no good at pens (both true), but let’s not pretend Riyad never turns up in big moments.
