Penalty Taker

Who should take penalties if Haaland is not on the pitch?

said it before Gabriel all day, league would not have gone to the wire if he had got the ball off Mahrez

Gundogan is the best pk taker at the club. Only penalty I have seen him miss at City was against Wolve in the pre season game in China

Yaya had a perfect record with pens (although I cannot remember him taking many in ‘big games’). I really worry who can be trusted to score them as it can/has been crucial this set

Like many others here I don’t feel 100% confidence when Sergio takes them especially as he has missed many and often mishits them. Not all our players play every game so there needs to be 2 or 3 that can step up. Gundogan seems best but doesn’t play every game. Sterling has improved finishing a lot but still susceptible to poor shooting.

I think KdB has the best qualities to be 1st choice - good technique striking a ball and always seems very calm.

The only others I would feel confident with are Sane (German) and Gabriel - however penalty-takers usually seem to be older players in most teams.

I think Ederson would be good too as he strikes so fast and accurately but think Pep woujd consider the GK taking pens as disrespectful to opposition and of course, issues about opposition counterattacking and scoring
Gabriel? I can't say I share your confidence there.
Gabrial career penalties scored 4/7.
(according to transfermarkt.com)

I'd say De Bruyne would be favourite.

Always find it odd strikers don't really fancy pens....

Jesus and Salah. We're 5th takers ! Striker with free hit at goal goes fifth ! What if other misses meant they never even got their go !

And I, Withnail, but will he start enough games to justify being numero uno?

I was surprised that Aguero wasn’t introduced as a 93rd min sub to take a penalty. Perhaps Pep was auditioning replacements

A lot of people say Gundogan but I really don't like his technique. How often has he hit it to the keepers left with that angled run up?

Kun will keep taking them, after that it's Kev or Gab for me.

Gundogan
Foden
Zinchenko
Gabby
Bernardo

all seem competent. Throw in KDB and between that six we should have a couple on the field at any one time. Raz, Kun and Mahrez need to practice but with their abilities should be good penalty takers. When you think about it, all of our players have the ability to pass the ball. Its just a question of passing the ball into the net, they should all be competent.

At this level they can’t just rely on passing the ball into the net, they have to be able to beat the keeper. Which means that they need to be able to employ a range of penalty kicks.

Aguero misses too many. Sorry to say enough is enough. Bernardo should take them for me. They are drilled in fast into the corners.

last time I watched them, most players seem to have a range of passes ;-)
But a simple pass into the net isn’t enough.

I just think it’s easy to underestimate how much better keepers have become at saving pens over the last 20 years. They’re generally a bit bigger and more agile. And they do a lot more homework on the penalty taker they’re facing. So penalty takers have to take more risk to beat them.

I think a penalty taker with a 70% success rate today is probably striking the ball as well as a penalty taker with an 80% success rate 20 years ago.
